2016 Fall Color Thread
Comments (126)sam_md, thanks for posting the clarification. Nice uniform color on that 'Fire Blaze'. Also, according to these webpages (below) 'Fire Blaze' doesn't retain its leaves through the winter, and therefore the late winter / early spring flowers aren't obscured. http://www.scottarboretum.org/publications/HamamelisReport.pdf http://gardenseeds.swarthmore.edu/gardenseeds/2014/11/pw-november-10/ ,...See MoreShow Us Your Gardens - A photo Thread - July 2017
Comments (54)I love Annabelle as well - the color that goes with anything, the long bloom time, and the full heads. I find the newer ones look overblown to me with bloom heads as big as my head. I don't find that most years Annabelle takes much to keep it from flopping, though this year it is a bit splayed because of the many hard downpours and even a hail storm with 3/8" stones that lasted something like 10 minutes. It has a lot of company in the group of "could look better" plants....See MoreShow Us Your Gardens - A photo Thread - September 2017
Comments (36)I have two, and they sometimes die back a bit in winter, but that is most likely due to the voles which are particularly bad in this bed. They should be rock hardy for you. The Ogons are 3 & 4 years old, started from rooted cuttings. The white flowers are early (before the foliage has mostly unfolded) and nice, but not super long lasting. To my eye, the foliage is the main attraction and really sings all season, delicate and bright yellow-green, transitioning to orange tones in fall. Mine is in full sun, and it may be less yellow in less sun. There is a much older one in a garden a couple towns over that has foliage interest, and that one is in morning sun but is shaded by the house by midafternoon. It stays more yellow than the green plants and it's a beautiful fountain of fine-textured foliage all season. I think it's probably 6' or 7' high. I don't think this is a plant that wants a lot of pruning....See MoreHow do we get the threads by color that were done in the fall?
Comments (4)Julia - It's nearly impossible to find anything on Houzz anymore. I did the posts, and I think I put the year 2020 in the title. So search for Yellow Daylilies of 2020. Well I tried that and it didn't work. The color posts ran from mid October to the first week in December. Go back on the pages of the daylily forum until you get to those months.
