modernize traditional man cave basement built-ins?

Hey all. I have a house with a finished basement. We are going to rip out the carpet and put down the faux wood tiling. My issue is this corner (bottom pix)-- there is a giant traditional built-in bar and a huge hand-laid stone wall. It's done beautifully it's just not my style whatsoever. (The rest of the house is very bright, modern beachy meets farmhouse rustic-- attached living room pic for reference.)

Any way I can lighten/brighten/modernize this up? Lighter wood flooring and white walls? Would it be a disaster to paint this finished bar which has a high gloss on it and is in great shape? Do I just try to do it with furniture (this furniture is just cheap and temporary to have something down there)?

If money were no object I would just rip this all out but for now want to work around it.

Any thoughts or inspiration?
