hutch in different color next to pantry cabinet?
Comments (2)Allie - Not sure if this will be helpful or not..... Our pantry is the closet to the left of the hutch. Many folks have asked me if the hutch was a piece of funriture or an antique that we incorporated. Our cabinet makers built it. Also, unrelated to your question but it bugs me - our cabinets seem WAY more blue in these photos than they are IRL - tonight they seemed a nice soft grey/blue to me....good luck with your project....See MoreIssue with pantry and fridge next to each other (fridge not CD)?
Comments (7)I have the exact configuration of a full depth refrigerator (ours is SxS, but the door situation is the same idea) next to a pantry. I was worried. I checked. I measured. I worried. It turned out perfect. The pantry door opens beyond 90 degrees. Actually it opens to its full stop which may be 110 degrees. Here's why. The door is about 19 inches wide, which sticks out WAY past the closed refrigerator door. So the cabinet pull can only hit air and since the door approaches the refrigerator at an angle, it goes past the refrigerator door before it extends as far to the side as the refrigerator. I don't know if that makes much sense. I'll post a picture if you haven't already decided against it. I do have a 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 inch refrigerator side panel instead of 3/4 inch so that helps too. I'm not sure if I can hit the refrigerator with the cabinet door if I try intentionally. I think I can, but my point here was that the cabinet door would open past 90 degrees which is necessary for a pull out. Having the refrigerator stick out past the cabinets (standard depth ref.) has another side benefit. It's harder to hit the cabinets with the refrigerator door too. In my case my refrigerator has a stop BEFORE the cabinets. I can force it further, but it stops automatically before the cabinets. If it were counter depth it would probably be too close to the cabinets when open and might hit them. - Jim...See MorePantry cabinet next to double ovens?
Comments (8)If you are really worried, perhaps you could make that side cabinet an interesting display unit or shelving area since it sounds like it will be visible from certain angles. Or it could be cabinets with shelves for lesser-used pots and pans and then you could have some of those pantry items closer to where they'll be used. The other thing you could do is turn it into your broom/step-ladder closet....See Morewasher/dryer closet + pullout pantry design--any thoughts?
Comments (7)Thanks so much. FWIW, to the left of the fridge, I want to put the micro in the upper cabinet and the toaster oven below. (so the fridge is scooted to the right. That 6" endcap is for the broom closet, if I can't find another home). But let me re-measure all of that area and see if there is room for the 15" tall cabinet. Always good to revisit. Thank you! The tall shallow pantry cabinet along the bedroom wall--you are astute! I have one there now (5' long) but...even a shorter one at 12" deep would interfere with the flow if we add an island. The current 48" wide aisle could potentially be cut to 42" but then I'd need to lose 6" in the island. (actually, we had debated making the island 4" wider, so I could have storage for books on the W/D side, but decided a 48" aisle might be good. I may still make the island wider). Another issue is that this corridor is in direct view of the front door, so today when I open the door I see that side of that 12" pantry. I'm trying to clean up that sightline and improve the flow. FWIW, I have a 1940 bungalow, so everything is smallish. Thanks so much for all your thoughts. If you have other ideas, I'd love to hear them. ;)...See Moreshadowsarah
