Urgent help please! Scary brown spots all over my plants
Comments (10)Hi Happy, Hopefully, the experts on the forum will look at the photos and give advice. In the meantime, I looked at the photos. It does appear that there was some type of chemical cleaning spray used in the office that may have gotten onto your plants. Would it be possible that there was a janitorial service that came in over the holiday break and did some spray cleaning? Suggest you might want to wash off the leaves and carefully dry them. Were there any blooms on the plants? Also, is there any possibility that the night cleaning crew is going around and watering your plants without your knowledge? That happened in my office. Once we realized what was going on, we asked the office cleaners not to water the AV personal plants. Perhaps you can take them home to recover if you have a place to isolate them. They don't look like goners. The spots seem isolated, like some chemical sprayed on them. But I am no expert. Glad you posted the photos to ask the Forum. Just one other thought, does the office use any pesticide? I discovered that a lot can go on in an office at night, the plants will be the first tell-tale sign of chemical usage. Comments (2)It looks like the diagnosis that Sonority provided is correct - root rot. When you cut back the neck, check for and completely remove any signs of rot (discolored, squishy, etc) in the neck. Any rot that is present will hamper your efforts to reroot the crown. Also, what kind of soil are you using? Commercially available potting mixes will be much too heavy - you need to add perlite so that your mix is 1/3 - 1/2 perlite. Check out the 2 links below - you'll find tons of information on caring for your violets. http://www.violetbarn.com/plant_care.html - click "Lessons" then "Restoring your Violet" for a writeup with pictures that will help you reroot your plant. http://www.rachelsreflections.org/ - There are 2 links for "Long Neck Problems" that should help you also. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. -Tim...See MoreURGENT advice needed for rotting jade plant!
Comments (64)Hi Rina, I used the miracle gro cactus + palm soil but I don't think it drained sufficiently. I'll purchase some perlite to mix in when I repot the plant. It's only been out for a night to callus so I'm going to leave it out a bit longer. That photo makes me feel much better -- my plant has a trunk of a similar-looking size, and is about a foot tall. I've only heard of much smaller cuttings rooting so I was nervous, and I'm still probably going to cut one of the branches off to try and root it just in case the larger plant doesn't survive. Did your thicker jade make roots? And if so, did it take longer than for a smaller start? I have another question in case you have any opinion. I'm leaving my apartment in about 3 weeks to travel home for a month (I'm currently a student). I was planning to leave all my plants here and just water them very well before leaving, but now I'm not sure if I want to leave the jade. I can try taking it on the plane with me but I don't know if that would cause it more stress than it's worth. If I do that I'd leave it with my mom for the foreseeable future since she's a better green thumb than me 😅 do you have any ideas here? Thank you so much for your help so far, I was pretty panicked last night and you've been easing my fears....See MoreTake a ride on my Compton Carousel production line
Comments (49)Hi Everyone, Longtime forum lurker, first time poster. I've been following this post and a couple others regarding CC's. Gill (or anyone else who might know), how much of the stalk do you leave on your CC's when you separate and repot them? I received a CC recently and there was a 3.5 inch stem. Should I trim it or leave the length as is? How much of the stem do you "bury" into the "soil" mix? Thank you for any direction - Lily...See MoreLilyCP Zone 6b Toronto, Canada
