Does this kitchen make my family room butt look SMALL?
Comments (11)Hi Palimpsest! Nice to see you over in Decorating! The lower right corner of the house would be the new Living Room. Sorry I forgot to label. We would like to keep both the Family and Living rooms. Bmorepanic tried to talk me into one big seating-type room recently. DH and I have thought about this many times during our 11 years here, but it doesn't feel right to us. We entertain A LOT and everyone seems to like to spread out and get separation from other guests when necessary. Rhome410 drew a different arrangement over on the Kitchen Forum as I posted this there also. I think it could work. Funny, this house is definetly NOT contemporary. It's just a house. No style, really. Just a house. It was built about 40 years ago in a solid neighborhood with great amenities, but is very basic. We're trying to give it some style and charm. We have/had (now torn out during demo) a very large brick woodburning fireplace stack roughly where mine is drawn with a firebox on each side offset from each other. It was a monster and took up too much space. We'd really like to keep a fireplace. I thought the double-sided one was a great idea to provide some separation b/w FR and LR, but yet keep the rooms more open than they were....See MoreWould gray wall color look good in my bathroom? & advice on countertop
Comments (13)Thanks priairiemom. I picked up a sample of the Repose Gray & am anxious to try it on the walls. It is a very pretty color! Oh Wow! Thanks Tibbs! It's great to see a mockup. Wish I was that talented. It has me quite torn. But I'll start with trying the light shade first. Thank you to everyone for suggestions! :) I think maybe I should loose the valance? I looked at Lowes tonight to see if they carried the Delta champagne gold color so I could see if it could work with the polished brass on the shower door handles but they didn't have it (: Is there any other finishes you think could work with the polished brass?...See MoreMy Family Room Looks Dated...
Comments (6)What are your thoughts on replacing the curtains and the paddle fan? Thoughts on a beige or light neutral sectional or sofas? You could bring in the red and warm accents through some accent pillows. Here are a few photo ideas. I especially like mix of warm reds and soft neutrals in the second photo. Comments (12)HI -- Nice room but you need some color ..I think .... think about putting the TV on an articulating bracket on the wall into the right corner ...possibly on the wall beside the patio door if the TV will not fit on the right side of the fireplace . Get some lined blackout curtain panels for the patio doors - on a black rod and hang them full height . You can have grommet tops or on rings . Put the sofa on that big empty wall so it faces the patio doos and the TV that's beside . Have matching cabinets / dressers on each side of the fireplace with 2 or 3 shelves above on the left of the fireplace to balance with the TV that is on the right side . Now have the chairs placed backing to the kitchen . This will open up the room and give you better viewing to the TV with no sun glare . With the TV being less of the main feature in the room. Now you can have a pretty round mirror or a painting over the mantel and a family photo wall or Art above the sofa . This will give the room better flow because the sofe was cutting the room in half . Also maybe fatten up those ceiling beams by wrapping them in wood and staining them a medium to dark color ... they could also have some strip LED up- lighting on top of them ....See Morehomeschooling
