The windows…what color? Looks bronze?

I don't think you need to re-orient your windows to get to your goal. Your current windows look just perfect. You have more of a contemporary style home rather than a colonial home.

I like the color suggestions by emmarene above. Notice she has the garage doors blending in with the siding color so they aren't a focal point and your attention is brought to the front door. However, a nice contemporary wood garage door works too.

Go with a beautiful wood front door, without a window to coordinate with the garage doors below.

I would suggest adding "battens" to your siding. They add depth and texture, and are equally at home on rustic and contemporary homes. Your window placement is perfect as is.

What color is the house now? It looks light green on my screen. What are you going to paint Navajo White? You might want to rethink that. Paint the entire house a darker color - as photoshopped above - might be a better way to go.

IMHO, the way to cure a houses identity crisis is not fight it, but let it be what it is! Which in your case is a handsome solid-looking midcentury modern... or lets say within the genre anyway, if not a prime circa 1959 specimen. Definitely has that cool ranchy kind of look and a lot of current fabrics, doors, furnishings, color palettes etc are straight out of MCM which means they would fit right in with your house. Not that you want to go over the top with making it into a time capsule or shrine to MCM style, but just let it influence/inspire your choices.

Sorry, but adding early 1900s craftsman brackets and other elements would add to an identity crisis, not cure it ....

As for color, people were not afraid of color then! OK, so you might not want to go vibrant brick red, or avocado green, or chocolate brown but even if you prefer something more contemporary, ie really grayed out or neutral, at least go darker and richer to give it a more solid look as well as fit in better with your beautiful woodsy natural setting.

Re symmetry, agree its not necessary..... but it should and I think does have a well balanced look. as I recall from (long ago) design courses there is formal balance and informal balance - both are good, and again I would just go with the original design intention.... if it works, why mess with success? The garage on left nicely balances window arrangement on the right, IMHO.

A friend with a similar 1970's home painted it a mid-to-dark gray shade and it transformed the house spectacularly. I'm not generally a fan of gray houses but this time it worked in spades. A vibrant coral, teal, mustard or burnt orange door would seal the deal.

I would always paint the garage doors the color of the house. All trim should be a darker shade of the wall paint...not white. Also, I would consider adding flat trim around the windows & doors. Example, the second floor group of three windows, and framing around the bottom and left side (in photo) to be the width of the space between the windows. Paint all those areas the darker house shade paint color. This will bulk up the windows to look newer in scale. Add this same trim size around all other windows and garage doors as well. Painting all the a darker color, like a darker shade of the house body color will enhance the size (look) of the windows and garage door. I would also bulk up the pillar in front (at least to 8-10" in diameter) and trim out the top and bottom to look more like a real pillar and not a post. If possible, do the far right post as well.

I think the trim is way too often white. Sometimes the white is too bright and that becomes all you see. In your case, I think a darker (not real dark) shade of the house color is the better option. Each home needs to have it's own look based on "that" house, not what is trendy or what everyone else does. Who wants to be like everyone else. Real designers look at each property (or job) individually and not coming in with cookie cutter or trendy ideas.
