Sideways photos

This is driving me crazy!!

When I load the photos from my iphone they are mostly sideways. I load them on my Windows 10 computer. When I plug in my phone a Microsoft window opens and shows all the photos on my phone. I check the photos I want to load.

After they load I use the edit function to straighten the photo and 'save as' and put it in a folder. No matter what I try the photo stays sideways. It appear sideways in the file but when I open it it appears in the correct position.

But, when I post the photo online, it appears sideways.

So, I discovreed I have Photoshop on my computer. So, I import the photo, edit it in photoshop and 'save as' again to the computer. It still stays sideways!

Ive tried other photo programs and the same thing happens. What is going on with Microsoft? Why, no matter how I save the photo, it continues sideways when I try to post from the file.

Sorry for the long post, but I really am at a loss as to how to post a photo from my computer that is correct.

just experimenting on win10... i take a photo on my cell phone... send it to network storage; "\\ROUTERSSD\usb3\temp\IMG_20170901_033337231_HDR.jpg"

Open it in windows 10 by right clicking and selecting Edit with Photo's

Double click the pictures and choose rotate, then choose Save.

So now the picture is still in the same network storage folder, which all should be the same as any folder on my laptop and upload it here....

and it uploads just like it was saved. It was taken upright skinny, and now it sideways.

So next i install from win10 store the Photoshop Express free app, skip the login, select the photos and browse to my saved sideways picture, select to Crop it, select to Rotate CCW, click the Save/Share button.... Save it to my laptop Pictures folder.

And upload here again which should be now right side up and pretty, sort of.

(...now i'm off to bing search to max out my bing rewards for today and earn maybe sixty cents)

Lol, not sure about the router business, but will look in the app store for photo express.

Thank you as always. Wondered if anyone could figure out what I was talking about. :))

Don't start with me... I LOVE Baldan's Orchids. It takes all the strength I can muster not to buy something from them. (My space limits force me to be extremely choosy so for now I'm trying not to order anything online- only buy in person) I'm a bit sorry I missed out on one they had called something like Barbara's Mandarin. It was a gorgeous orange color. I also saw one they had for sale on ebay called Flamingo that looks fabulous. They really do have gorgeous phals. I wish they were more accessible locally, but I do understand that they are trying to keep some hybrids off the widespread market. I'd say I have 2 more years in this apt before I buy a home with my husband. So, I'm going to have to slow down my orchid buying... I really don't have much more room. Some of the paphs seem to take up very little space- (one bloom, smaller foliage, smaller pot) so I'll consider that in the future... or even some mini phals as well. I'm seriously addicted. I never had a green thumb. Last year I brought a plumeria cutting back from Hawaii to NJ and I've been into plants ever since. Unfortunately, plumeria really have to be grown in warm climates. Mine is thriving, but it's not something I can cultivate and grow in my home so easily. The orchids on the other hand seem to be doing well... even in my North window. I love this forum, as you can tell I've been posting a lot recently and I'm sure that will continue. Thanks all!

Lovely--roses around a birdbath. Nur Mahal is so vivid and yet such a wonderful team player. You have so many unusual and delightful cultivars! I hauled my mom's birdbath from Dallas to PDX after she moved into long-term care. It's still sitting in my driveway, as per my usual procrastination, but as soon as the lake clears up in my back garden, I plan to lug the concrete bath to a bed space. All that's blooming for me at the moment is Lady Banks. Thanks for the flowers! Carol

They look great...ask your husband to download the photo bucket app on his iPad, and he can upload them to photo bucket. Then you can use the HTML link for each photo to post multiple pictures in one post. There is a thread somewhere on here that explains exactly how to do it. Good luck with the rest of the renovation....we are coming to the end of our renovation.

I have pointed out several glitches to them. In addition to the whole annoying sideways photo thing, I've found that links I post move or disappear completely after I hit submit. Then I need to go back in and do it again. If you highlight and try to delete it wants to leave the page. It's an adaptation, not the original forum set up that was popular before. The one piece of information I was given after several complaints is that Houzz is optimized for the Google Chrome browser. If you use Chrome here photos post properly and the links don't disappear. I use Chrome for 1 or two things because it is rapacious about tracking every single thing someone does. Then Google collects and profits from the information and your privacy is invaded more than it usually is by Firefox or even IE. Ipads use Safari. You'd think a design site would be optimized for that and mobile but on mobile the site isn't scalable. Houzz should address this. They've been told. They don't seem to care.

Ok, Mikie, just downloaded it. It doesn't say anything about using the picture on web pages, just Facebook. I'm not interested in Facebook.

I am an orchid grower and post my photos on the orchid gallery on Gardenweb.

Hopefully, I can figure out a way to use this. Weird because I have Photoshop on the computer and did the editing of the photo on there, when I 'saved as' from photoshop to my laptop, it appeared sideways. Could not get the photo straight (or skinny).

So, you are saying this small photoshop program should work and I can post the photo here on Gardenweb?

Will give it a go and post back.

Just a guess, could it be you are rotating the icon and not the actual picture. Might want to type into Cortana folder settings and uncheck the option to unhide file extensions. To make sure you are rotating a .jpg or whatever real picture.

Downloaded your pic, right clicked and Edit with Photo's, selected Crop & Rotate, rotated it clockwise about 3 times and pressed Done & then Save as copy.

Thanks, I'll check the setting but I am moving the photo into the photo program and editing there. When I click on the tile and open the file on Windows, the photo appears correct. The tile shows it sideways. I originally edited it on Windows.

So, now I've moved the photo into regular Photo shop and your suggestion of Photoshop Express. Both programs show the photo correctly. I even installed Picture It and edited it there but I can't post directly to websites from any of the programs.

I, 'save as' to my laptop. It appears sideways again. Even though it is correct on the photo programs.

I'm thinking I should delete the original picture from Windows and then file, save from the photo programs. I'm just afraid of losing the original.

But, what the hell......

Got it!!!

Deleted the original and saved the Photo express. It worked...who knows why?
