She bloomed for Christmas and since may she is in the garden.

Comments (97)Hi Everyone, Sounds like a great day for our plant swap! I will be bringing some hand-crafted things for the doorprizes - an autumn welcome slate, a candleholder with a scarecrow painted on it, a hand painted concrete stepping stone (painted with outdoor safe paint), and I plan on picking up 2 pots of mums. If Heather would like, we could use her crafts as well, for door prizes. I wish she would contact me. I am bringing pickled beets and eggs as my dish. I also promised to bring some trash bags, so I will bring those. So far, I have potted up a lavender (Lady is the variety), a Blue Boy Garden Phlox, some pots of a shorter variety of Shata Daisy called Silver Angel that I started this year from seed, some pots of rooted cutting of Coral Carpet Rose, and like Cathy, I will be bringing some named daylilies and irises in plastic grocery bags...will be digging them tomorrow. Comments (5)No chipmunk problem here as they are rare, squirrels are another story as they are plentiful. As for chicken wire, are you sure that chipmunks can't climb over it? Also, they are such tiny creatures that they may be able to squeeze through the openings even if they're the smallest gap available (1"?) size. Hardware cloth (a sturdier barrier) is more expensive but range in the 1/2" opening size....See More

I came home from work the other day and I was surprised by this summer bloom. I went out a few moments ago to take a picture of her and some friends.
This is Naranja. I like her color much better in the summer and in full sun as the orange is so intense and beautiful.
This is a very stubborn Honeybee that refuses to form any offsets despite my threats to "force" her.
A lovely Eucomis cosmosa that's blooming her heart out.
Rain lily (habranthus robustus) that appeared over night thanks to some much needed rain we got yesterday.
Last but not least, an orange Hibiscus that just flowered for the first time since her severe hair cut earlier this spring. She had been growing very crammed in a pot with three others but is much happier on her own and with fresh soil.

6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoVery nice Fred. I find that I like orange flowers more and more, especially during the fall.
I went out to feed my plants this morning and found this little stunted lady but with decent color. This is Exotica x Lady Jane that has bloomed normally before for me, I don't know why they do this!!!!

6 years agoYour flowers are very nice, Fred! For me Naranja looks rather red than orange but I've only seen it in pictures. I have Emanuelle blooming, quite colorful and fragrant but with only two flowers.
Summertime is Hibiscus time isn't it! They are the only plants without bulbs I kept in the flat :-) These two open new flowers almost every day at the moment:

6 years agoAnja, here she was in 2014. Not a prize by any means but I've made worse seedlings!! Actually, at the time I think I had a couple from from this cross that bloomed and I can't be absolutely sure that this is the one above but it looks like the color and I can see some curviness in the stunted flower so I'm fairly sure this is it.
My Naranja when she blooms is definitely orange, maybe Fred used the flash which can change the color dramatically. I have some pictures just like Fred's taken with a flash and they look the same, red.
Your hibiscus are lovely, as is Emanuelle!
It's hard to imagine that much rain, if we get a few inches we feel we've hit the jack-pot!! I finally heard from Ray, he says they got 40" and just a little minor flooding in one room.
Now, lets see what Irma does to Florida and or the southern east coast.....

6 years agoActually, Anja, I just looked again and my stunted flower is marked seedling # 1 so I checked my pictures again and this was #1.
My stunted flower has some extra petals so I think it's a partial petaloid like the one in this picture which I do NOT like!! There are a few more in the same pot so perhaps the one I posted first is there too. I found another one that I had marked throw away, I wonder if I did.....I should throw this one away too but of course, I probably won't! :-)everado

6 years agoShe is my late/early lady .
She has one stem with 4 flowers, and 10 huge and strong leaf. The bulb is about 5 1/2 inch (about 14-15 cm).
