Please help with bedroom art
Hi, this is my 3rd time trying to post on the same topic! I hope this works.
I have been working on my bedroom and now want to select art above the dresser. Dresser is 70" wide, 36" high, and ceiling is 8'. I have seen art online that is 40 x 48 and I have taped out the size on my wall. Please let me know if this works. I would probably add tall skinny lamps flanking the art.

Comments (56)Something I did in my guest bedroom while waiting for the perfect pieces of art was to get a photo calendar with pictures I like and buy some simple black frames. I had a set of four, looked pretty good. The one I had was Japanese watercolor art. Later, I bought two large beach watercolors. I love the beach and I found having beach pictures in the bedroom very relaxing! I like landscapes, but if you don't, then by all means don't. I had some landscapes in my bedroom, but moody ones. One was a cabin glowing with firelight covered by a huge amount of snow illuminated pink by a sunset. Just the perfect spot I would have liked to be and since the snow made it impossible to get in or out of the place, it just evoked peace and relaxation or me. To a Floridian it might have been a living nightmare, lol. Later it was a little homestead cabin on top of a hill, a woodcut. When I went full on beach in one room, I had the typical tropical desert island scene, which also says relax, no interruptions. Landscapes can be very abstract too, my friend's daughter does very abstract landscapes. I'm not trying to sell her stuff, just including a link because I think she does beautiful work and it's a good example of "out of the box" landscapes. Comments (20)Kitch4me (I always thought the "kitch" in your name stood for "kitchen," though it just occurred to me that it could mean, well, kitch, which I like even better) I've chosen the last of the two pictures to hang between the windows, at least, for now. One of these days, my artist friend will make it over to help me (re)organize my artwork, and, then, all bets are off as to where they'll end up. I did reorganize my shelves a bit. I even took iphinkmountain's advice & added some baskets at the bottom - put photo albums and my old journals (dating back to high school, I think) in them. ShawNshawN - thanks for the calculations! I absolutely generally agree with you about hanging art eye height - and since I'm 5'3" and live alone, that's the standard I use - right? I don't really care what "average" eye height is in my home. That said, not all my art is eye height. For example, I have this vignette: The lower piece is hanging quite low, but it is eye height, for me, when I'm sitting on my sofa directly across from it. Which brings up the art above the bookshelves, directly across from my bed... that's art that I see when I'm in/on my bed. The photo above, taken from my bed, is how I see the art when I have a direct view of it. 6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoI love your bedroom, seems very relaxing. Art is personal, but it seems like you have enough wall space to get a bigger picture that will make the room look and feel bigger. Its seems like you are playing it very safe with lots of neutrals in colors and sizes. Even something slightly larger then what you are planning will make a big difference, or two of the slightly different paintings that you had picked out together with a wooden or stone geometric divide will work better then just one.
Also something simple above your bed, whether its a metal/wood work of art, a tapestry, a painting, or even a strip of wall paper that goes from behind the headboard to the edge of the ceiling will give a little character and height.

6 years agoAre you still looking at abstract? Have you browsed etsy lately? I'm surprised you haven't found anything yet! Your room doesn't scream "pop of color" to me. A lot of times etsy artist can make the size you need also...
