Gail, I have something just like the walmart table, and I can tell you that it would be totally unstable at any larger than 20". As it is, I have to be careful about where I put the lamp and make sure I don't accidentally nudge it off-center.

It used to be that everyone sold up to 20" with the three legs, and then larger had the foldout big central support. I don't think there was ever a 30" version with the spindly pole legs.

Do you mean you made the legs out of 1" by 12" pine? I don't have my tools here in NYC, was looking for something I could just throw a tablecloth over. I'm thinking with legs that wide, the kitty litter box might not fit underneath. Sounds like a good idea for a sturdy table though.

Now I'm wondering if 30" is too large for a bedside table. If it's sitting in the corner of the room I think it'll be okay, but not sure. I'm pretty certain in my last home the marble-topped table I had on my side of the bed was quite large but not sure of exact measurements. I liked having so much room for books, lamp, glasses, etc. Off to google images!

Yes, I made mine like a mini bookcase sized to store my garden magazines. It is about 24" high with one shelf. I used the little L shaped brackets to attach the top to the sides. With a larger top and the sides moved out, a litter box would fit underneath.

Actually, now that I'm thinking this through, I don't know if I want to have a kitty litter box right next to my bed! Might need to move it to living room. Sorry to be so ditsy on this! And thanks everyone for the help!

Interesting, when searching there are photos but all sites say they are not available. They use to be available at many places.

Years ago we put a wood round top over a clean garbage can with a pretty floor length tablecloth, worked well for storing lots of stuff.

They have been impossible to find so I've made my own for many years. ...out of a variety of things. You could use 2 crates like these screwed together on end and use the top crate for storage which also helps weight it. Screw on a cheap table round (sold at HD, Lowes in lumber section) and you're good to go. Guess it depends how large your kitty box is. I've even reinforced 24" H cardboard boxes by gluing some 1x4's on the inside and slapped the round on. With the 1x4 there you can screw the top down. If it was sturdy enough and I didn't have a lamp on it I usually just put a rubber shelf liner under the top to keep it from sliding about. If you want to make the skirt and top appear a little bit more high end, use a towel on top under the skirt to soften the edge of the round. The rounds are really cheap; just use your imagination and get the right size base. I've also used garage sale end tables...again with HD round.

I have that Collections Etc. one backordered. No idea if it will ever come or now. I guess now that mid-century modern is the thing, they are going to make everyone pay for expensive ones. But we're coming back around to the 80s so maybe they will be popular again!
