I think it's Hedera helix which produces this shape leaf in the arboreal phase, ie when it reaches the top of its support. The developing fruit in the photo look exactly like the berries which cover my shed every year and are beloved of pigeons especially. Curiously, if you take a cutting of the arboreal phase it will retain that foliage and not revert to its climbing guise. You can then grow yourself an ivy 'tree'. You never provided a location. Also curious how you placed your plant in the Scorzonera genus. If that part is accurate, there are only two Scorzonera species in the US. The first is S. hispanica, which is only found in northern California. The second is S. lacinata. That one does look something like your plant, and is found along a line from northwest Montana to the panhandle of Texas. It was also recently found in southern Oklahoma. Sam, The leaves are much smaller than Elaeagnus umbellata although the shape of the blossoms is almost identical. From above the leaves look a lot like common privet in size and shape, with the bottoms looking just a little whitish. The jpgs named top and bottom show both sides of the leaves of a twig, with a shoe for scale. The plant is in bloom only a short time, and small green berries follow. I don't recall exactly how long last year's berries remained attached, but they were not conspicuous at any stage, and I don't recall any color other than green. I also did not notice how many seeds they contained. The bush is deciduous and leafs out just before blooming. In fall the leaves yellow somewhat before dropping.

I don't know 'miniature day lilies" Stella Dora bloom early (June) and more often than regular day lilies, and are shorter more compact than most. In my yard July is day lily month. You need a later summer into fall bloomer. I would look for a sun flower or garden mum variety. I have a boarder along my driveway. It goes from iris to day lily to resurrection lilies. Next year I will have holly hocks blooming. If you mulch well weed cloth is never needed and is counter productive. You want the mulch to degrade and improve the soil. Another reason to not use the heavily dyed types. Lip stick on a pig we call her around here. I will say the newer black much is nice in that it recedes and no one notices it. Looks like rich dark soil. Preen would fertilize and keep weeds down if you aren't using flowers that comeback due to reseeding.
