A floor plan will really help. It will let us see what lights you can see from where. Is your faucet and your hardware both chrome? and your door handles the dark finish. I can't tell if it is antique brass or not? What is your DR chandy - is it brass? You need to figure out, if you are following the article that you posted what category each of the above elements fall into. (the faucet, hardware, etc.) My feeling is that you have already mixed your metals. For example - in the kitchen you have chrome hardware/faucet (step 1). Step 2 would indicate picking a matching metal which you did with the island light and either of the window lights. (I prefer A2 as it adds another element - the white glass shade - into the mix while retaining the metal. Where I am bogging down is in the transition areas between the rooms which is why a floorplan would be helpful. For the foyer/LR I would pick H2 and J1 but that is subject to change depending on the floorplan and how the rooms are connected. Edited to add: Don't forget, unlike a bathroom, a kitchen comes with other metals. What are your appliances, pots/pans, cutlery. What are your plans for your stools - any metal there? In your foyer, LR and GR - does any of the furniture have any metal in them and if so - what type. Are any of your accessories metal. How about your backsplash. This thought and question was triggered while I was just in my kitchen and happened to notice my copper backsplash which is behind and underneath my stainless steel range and vent. My hardware and faucets are brushed nickel while my lights in the eating area and family room are aged bronze. My pendants are a mix of the two and act as a transition. I treated each `area of the house as a separate area. Kitchen/eating area/family room is one area while the DR and LR was treated as a separate area. Because the Kitchen/eating area/family room had a mix of metals I felt comfortable using either of those 2 metals in other rooms. The copper backsplash was my jumping off point for using copper in a variety of accessories throughout the house.. So, 3 metals throughout the house. Ignore the critics that think you should have new everything for every room -- not all of us have that budget. Don't discard your furnishings. That you have exercise equipment in this room indicates it's not intended to be a formal living room. While it may well be that not all your furnishings are on the short list of items most of us want to put in our the living room for creating a good first impression -- they're certainly not out of place for a family/activity room. You might want a larger cabinet on which to set your tv in no small part because a taller cabinet will be more comfortable to watch and a larger cabinet with doors would give you media related storage space. With that in mind, if you're wanting to change this room on a budget, sometimes you can find an old hutch or bookcase suitable for use as a tv stand from an "antique and more" resale (used stuff) store, Habitat for Humanity Restore Store, Good Will or a local charity thrift store that will serve your purpose When you are out and about with a few minutes to spare, wake through these and see if something catches your eye. If you are careful not to collect junk -- if you know the measurements of your room/space before buying anything and buy only what you will actually use, then such trips will not be wasted time. @ RL - very good points re: cleaning. @groveraxle - goodness, I love your candor. Here's the thing. Those are knock-off Beat pendants and they're served me over the last 5 years but I'm ready for an update. They are also very low wattage so provide very little down lighting. I'm also SUPER fussy about finishes matching, and I'm doing chrome faucets and pulls. I don't like brushed + chrome look lol. I'm picky-picky. We have vaulted 16+ foot ceilings and the space feels large at over 20 feet long (even though the island breaks up the middle), I really feel like we need pendants over the island to break up the space. But I am definitely going to hold off on the pendants over the eating bar. @Patricia Colwell - i love that look but probably for another room. Thank you so much everyone!

The foreground light is by the front door, I didn't angle very well with the photo so it looks as though they are very close but they are placed far enough. I was mainly trying to show the three lights as they are so similar to each other. The room IS pretty dark and yes, that's why it is over lit. I also have lamps and recessed lights. Will try to take some better photos!! Thanks very much for all suggestions, minus the sarcastic bored person blurb.
