How to fix wall to wall crack
Comments (2)Sounds like your drywall was hung vertically to have a floor to ceiling crack that long. The cause is possibly a warped stud at that seam. Take a straightedge that is long enough to cover a few stud spaces, (at least 48"), and hold it horizontally centering it over the crack in the middle and see if it rocks. That will tell whether that stud is bowed out. Cracking can occur if the stud is extremely bowed in as well but typically more predominant when bowed out....See MoreBehind the walls
Comments (6)I have a home constructed in 1939. Its walls have metal lath with brown plaster on them, with a top coat of a finished plaster. You are seeing the brown plaster beneath the top coat. If you dig, you will probably find metal lath. Which, by the way, is problematic when you have WiFi. It blocks the signal, requiring boosters. But I wouldn’t trade my plaster walls for drywall any day!...See Morekitchen wall around faucet cracks, how to quickly fix?

Comments (7)Jeremy, did you get a solution? I renovated a100 year old house 2 years ago. All the walls were plaster with suspected lead paint at some point- so skim coated all walls with Sheetrock mud... applying, drying, sanding,& re mudding till smooth. I then paid a licensed painter to paint. Instead of primer first, then paint he used a SW PRIMER Paint COMBO. This old house has brick exterior and plaster interior walls. Naturally the plaster moisture levels rise after heavy rains. Moisture reading goes up and down. Soooooo-what now? I read where high quality OIL PRIMER best for walls with some moistlure, but what to do about latex that is NOT ADHERING? I can’t really paint over it? Right?...See Morenoodlesportland
