I'm sure any color would be pretty but because your house has a traditional feel to it, I'd go with a striking red!

A shiny navy blue would be another consideration.

I'm confused by the glass door in front of the other door, but mainly because it is hinged on the opposite side. I assume this is a temporary door, and I would not paint it, as that would call more attention to it.

If you removed the glass door, you could paint your then front door black if you wanted to, but I would first want to have a roof over the front porch, to protect you from rain when you are opening the door.

The doors were in place when we purchased the home so I am not sure what the their thoughts were. This door is not used but does face the road. I think removing the glass door would be a great option. Thank you!

I was thinking that perhaps it was used to prevent pets from escaping, but if you do not need it, removing it will show off your real front door much better - plus it will be easier to get it, since the glass door is hinged on the wrong side. I had a screen door attached to my kitchen door to the back yard like that, and I rehung it, with the hinge on the correct side, but that was because I liked to have my kitchen door open to get air circulation through the screen.

Yours does not look like a security door, but it does block the view of your prettier door.

A mustard yellow. I am usually not a fan of the "pop of color" for a front door. But, I was out walking one day and saw a gray house with the yellow and I really liked it.

Tracie, I'm in Michigan too and have a "storm door" as well, only ours is split in two and the top half has a screen. You may not want to take it down not only because they can be quite pricey, but because they also come in handy even in the summer. Sometimes the hardware can be switched to the other side, you may want to do some research to see if your door falls into that category and if it can be done after a door is already hung.

From a 'Maine-ah', I'd sure keep that storm door and ones over the window!

I've never seen a storm door before, and so this is something new for me. I've heard of storm windows, however, but not sure how those are used. I've been through hurricanes in Houston, however, when people boarded up their windows temporarily.

I thought people used double pane glass in windows now instead of storm windows.

In an older home, you might see what you see above. My cape in Maine was built in 1937, and when I bought it, it had the original storm windows that hung from hangers just above the frame, similar to this pic below I just found online. The old windows were single pane glass, and so were the storm windows. There were strips of felt that made a 'seal' between the inside of that storm window and the frame.

You'd hang these, and there were 'turn clips' on the inside to hold them in place. I had my original windows replaced with double pane glass, so no more storms, but there are still plenty of these around in states with cold winters.

My 'storm doors' are newer, as I replaced the originals which were getting rough. See second pic - and they have glass inserts like you see below, in a winter pic, and then screen inserts for warm weather. They fit tightly within the frame, as you see below, and there are turnbuckles inside that you turn to lock them in place within the frame.

Well I took the advice/opinion of a sales rep at Sherwin Williams and went with SW outer space. Looked for gray in the store but turns out to be much more 'blue' than I wanted. I'm undecided if I like it. We have plans to remove the tall shrubs, changing the light, and possibly adding shutters. As well as maybe changing the door color again and adding a new storm door. Any other ideas or thoughts on color?
