Stargazing has always fascinated me. When I was a kid, I got a lot of "Steven, get down off that roof this minute! You're going to break your neck." I miss the rural Illinois night sky. I envy you folks that don't have urban glare. Getting into the wilds of California though can rival some of the best stargazing I've known. I remember one night, up in the giant redwoods in Humboldt county. We set up camp on a wide bend near the Eel river. That campsite was magical,, with an incredible view of the night sky and towering redwoods on either bank. What a show. I had never seen the Milky Way that clearly before. That was the first time I realized that you could actually see our own galaxy. It's a profound thing. Hey Cameron! Congratulations to your son. Sounds like he's on the right track. Ah, to be young again. Steven

I was lucky enough to have the Yule Feast and Festival with family and friends here. Most of us stayed up all night tending the Yule fire, telling stories and watching the eclipse (all of it). The temps here got down in the upper 30s but having a nice fire in the fire pit and hot cocoa helped a lot. As the eclipse started we all hung around the fire pit, let the flames die down to a 4' wide 12" deep pit of glowing coals while we watched earth-shadow creep slowly across the moon in moderate comfort. As the eclipse turned full the red-ish glow was not as red as it was to become after several minutes. What was totally the strangest part was at the moment the moon was completely eclipsed all the outside dogs in the area started to howl, yip and bark. That gave most of us goosebumps. We heaped more wood on the coals got the fire going, added a bit of brandy to the hot cocoa, and spent the time until sunrise sharing our own stories of the blessings and trials we have endured this last year thanking the deities for a better year for all and exchanging Yule gifts. Awesome way to spend the first hrs of the first day of winter. Blessings and Merry Christmas all. LIL

From BGR.com " If you want to watch it live, NASA says that the edge of the Moon will begin to enter the Earth’s penumbra (the outer section of the shadow) at 6:36 p.m. PT / 9:39 p.m. ET. Over the course of the next 57 minutes, the Moon will dim as it travels through the penumbra. Then, at 7:33 p.m. PT / 10:33 p.m. ET, the Moon will reach the umbra, at which point it will become significantly darker. By 8:41 p.m. PT / 11:41 p.m. ET, the Moon will be all the way inside the umbra, and that’s when the eclipse truly begins. The best view will occur at 9:12 p.m. PT / 12:12 a.m. ET. " Hopefully the sky will be clear for you. The moon was beautiful this morning. It had a giant halo around it.

I deleted that link. Here is the same site, but page before it I think. LINK I think these eclipses aren't visible from the US or at least parts of the US. The next visible one would be July for us.
