Okay, a cost question on ROUGH electrical. Can you help?
Comments (36)Hi MTVhike, We generally do a 15amp dedicated circuit for the smoke alarms. Every electrical contractor has there own way of wiring up a house. The only thing we do 15amp circuits for is lighting sometimes and smoke alarm. Everything else will be 20amps or above. You would rather have this contractor than one that is putting everything on 15amp circuits. It does also depend how many circuits you are putting in the house. Our circuit layouts: (changes depending on size) 1 20amp each bedroom 1 20amp each bathroom 1 20amp garage 1 50amp for car charger (ready for future use) 1 40amp for stove 1 30amp for A/C 1 20amp exterior 1< 20amp common area receptacles (amount depends on size) 1< 15/20amp common area lighting 1 20amp per 2 small appliance circuits, micro, frig, GD, DW 1 20amp for Washer 1 30amp for dryer additional dedicated circuits per requiest or equipment I believe I got everything, I did it off the top of my head. Overall, this would not be a worry if I saw an electrical contractor installing 20amp circuit for smoke alarms. Hopefully, there was something helpful in there. -Nathan NRG Electric Inc 408-508-5350...See MoreIdeas for replacing interior 1950s iron railings and stair rail?
Comments (15)Be sure to sell or give away that beautiful old railing and not throw it on a heap. I happen to like it. But indeed, it might look better in black. The railing you have posted instead gave me some shudders. Quite a contrary style and not one I'd welcome in my home. Way too modern for a ranch home, is what comes to my mind. If you are really going to get a new railing, I like the one Judy proposed, although I wouldn't want it in white at your place. Perhaps in black and the railing that matches the wood of the stairs? Or maybe something like this?...See Morestairs with hand rail or no hand rail
Comments (34)The post I mentioned would not be at the bottom tread so the design of a continuous handrail would have to bypass the post to get to a newel at the bottom tread and there would need to be a guard at the new opening whether it be solid, balusters, etc. At first glance it seems a potentially messy solution. Perhaps the handrail could be at the other side and the guard could terminate at the post. The bottom tread should have had returns at each side. Its looks like a abasement stair in the entryway....See MoreHand rail ideas needed
Comments (8)This needs a rail on the close side or it is a safety hazard, and the hand rail needs to be able to go continuously from top to bottom, so it would be helpful to see up the stairs. What style are you going for? Would a classic wood railing in trim color not work? You could go black metal if you wanted something a bit more unique, but you'd need other black metal accents to compliment it....See More_sophiewheeler
