Show me your black appliances or mixed SS + black
Comments (9)I went through the same thing...only reversed. I have a black range and everything else is stainless. I have natural cherry cabinets which will darken over time. Initially, I didn't know what to do for the DW and fridge. I guess that I could have done paneled, but I am not a huge fan of hiding the appliances. My decision was made for me, because I bought them at a warehouse sale and stainless was what was available on sale. Here are some pictures. It is kind of hard to get the overall impression, but I think it looks OK....See MoreGas Cooktop---SS or Black?
Comments (3)Joyce, I'm not sure whether the black top on their ranges is the same material as their cooktops, altlhough I guess it makes sense that it would be. Just to show how we're all different, my current 20 year-old white cooktop has the modular parts for the burners and I grew to hate that. It just made one more place for grime to settle in so that I never felt like I should just wipe off the top and call it clean, but felt I needed to clean out all the cracks where the modular burner unit met the main part of the cooktop. Of course, I didn't do that every time, but it always has bothered me that I don't. Jeannie, Thanks for the warning. That's what I'm afraid of. We're probably going to go with Black Pearl granite in the kitchen,so an all black cooktop would look nice, but I think the SS will look good, too. I hope someone with the SS cooktop will weigh in with their experience. If I'm told that the SS cooktop is also difficult, I guess my only choice would be to forego the cooktop altogether and just rely on takeout! Comments (2)24" depth is better for capture area of the smoke and grease. The 21" depth won't cover the front burners very well, allowing more of the smoke and grease to escape into the kitchen rather than up the exhaust. The 24" depth will look fine. As to height, there are two primary considerations: your cooktop's specifications will specifiy the height for the exhaust, which is typically about 30". Also, as Nkkp pointed out, some Building Codes may specify this distance, but it varies by region, and there are Building Codes that don't have a requirement for that distance, so you can check your region's Code. But also, typically, the required height is in the 30" range. If you go too high with your hood, you will be allowing more smoke and grease to escape, and so what would be the point of spending all that money on your hood and liner, if you will render it less effective by installing it too high? No, it is not "weird looking up into the open grill". It's a very clean look. You're overthinking it. As to black vs. SS for the liner, I would prefer SS. I think it looks better. And it'll be easier to see if any grease is accumulating on it so it'll be easier to wipe down. Also, sometimes a paint coating can peel with exposure to heat and steam. I don't know that the VAH black painted interior would do that, but why take the chance when you can just get the SS....See MoreCan I mix SS Wall Oven with Black Fridge and Dishwasher?
Comments (3)Without seeing the space and the info given, I think you can do that. All the appliances coordinate well enough in my opinion and wouldn't bother me if it was my home (...and I am very picky)....See MoreErin Beckman
