Please help me put *something* above my dining table
Comments (12)Ooh yay more responses!! :) There is a flush mount light, since the wiring is not centered over the table. Long story having to do with our not-stellar builder. To center something I would have to deal with about 3.5' of cord. Here's where my taste gets complex. And frustrating. And -- impossible. I love a lot of "Mexican" pieces - heavy pine furniture, rustic pottery, etc. but I do not love a true Mexican look - I don't care too much for the textile patterns, overall palette, etc. I actually used to have a flat weave rug that my MIL loomed hanging over the table, but it was too large for the space. One that's a more suitable size is on my perpetual shopping list. I've been looking for something I love for a very long time, and no luck yet. I would love to have something other than a print there, prints are just "safe" for me - easy. I'm competent at hanging a print. I have all sorts of hangy things but I'm not competent when it comes to piecing together things that don't obviously "go," and I'm not very skilled when it comes to arranging things in space (spatial is not one of my higher intelligences!) I just raided my storage room with a camera and got a VERY SMALL sampling of things to show my "taste." Do you see any of these things "going" together? Because I can't, and would need help here. A large lantern w/ glass inserts that I adore, but can't find the perfect place for: Wrought iron sun shape w/ mirror insert: Obligatory Pier 1 candleholder: A pair of candleholders: Two similar wall hangings that are sun outlines with amber inserts. And a grass-like metal thing (thought it would look good in my bathroom once upon a time) on top of them: Carved wood mirror: ...and lots more where those came from....See MoreHelp me find something like this please?
Comments (3)powermuffin - I'd been googling "secretary", so I tried "dropleaf" and got some new results - thanks. flowerchild - appreciate the link, but I'd already checked out that site and unfortunately, they don't offer one with the floor clearance I need for the baseboard heat. I'm beginning to understand why the previous owners just left this wall bare -- apparently nothing fits!...See MorePlease help! Need help, advice, and ideas regarding kitchen
Comments (42)Yes, we plan to have a closet/utilize the space under the stairs leading up to the 2nd floor (this closet accessible via the study). No closet under the stairs that lead down into the basement currently. Can you fit a closet in this one? Only concern is this is the only real wall in the great room. Unfortunately we need all 3 spaces - formal dining (now serving as main eating area), study, and guest bedroom. I don't want books/computers/laptops/electronics in the dining room. I play the cello - need separate music space/area, so I'm combining music area (place store music books, cello, music stand) with a small desk/books located in the study. Both in-laws live out of state (as do most siblings) and for various reasons, we've had family stay with us for extended periods of time (i.e. months), so don't want to go into guest bedroom to access my computer, electronics, pay bills, etc. Live in northeast OH, so mudroom area/place for coats is essential. benjesbride - That floor plan you sent is almost identical to ours! Only difference is the right side of the house continues to come forward, ours doesn't - ours has to recede due to lot restrictions. If it helps, here's the topo (house on the pie shaped lot)...See MoreKitchen is done, help me with finishing touches please, please...
Comments (61)What about counter height bistro table with wood trunks as base, and Pier 1's tempered glass as the top, etc.... 2 wood stools and oval glass? or plywood top, and use your leftover panel fabric as tablecloth...!
