My Grandparents old buffet...should I take it??
Comments (29)My vote is for the entryway. While symmetry is often most pleasing on the eye, it is not always possible (and if overdone can be downright boring). You can make up for a lack of symmetry with a sense of balance. The most important thing is that it flow in the room and is anchored by other elements in the room. Perhaps you can center it relative to the wall closet opposite? Which gives it is sense of purpose so that these two areas become your organization/storage for indoor/outdoor items, mail, etc. One of the side shelves could even be a purse/briefcase (or later diaperbag) repository. I recommend the mirror and lamps similar to mine. The mirror serves not only as decor, but function so you can make a last minute check on appearance before heading out the door. Didn't you have a mantle clock? If so, that'd work well in the center, probably better than my pitcher given the proposed location. If you put decor on the top you will be less inclined to clutter it up--esp. if you designate one of the drawers for "clutter". It works with the spindle table in the room, but in this case I would not put a mirror above the spindle table, instead some artwork would look nice there, or perhaps a chair where someone could sit and put on their shoes. Perhaps even revist the idea of angling the spindle table so that everything is not linear. My take is a bit different than teacats in that I prefer not only woods to match or be very similar within a room, but the style as well. Your style seems similar to mine in that you have a mix of transitional and antique going on. Do you have a family room also? If not, then it would be a good thing to have a few bare spots in the LR to keep the future baby's playthings. I can see it working well as a salon piece also, but would be concerned the finish would get damaged by all the hair care products, scissors, etc. unless you were to get a glass top made for it....See MorePlease assist with some Tile/Grout finishing questions.
Comments (17)Thanks homepro01 Like some tile (it is a porcelain from Florida Tile) there are not any cove profiles in this color or any other off-setting color that would have worked. I certainly understand that there might have been some other methods but I am unfamiliar with them. I do however enjoy stainless steel and the longevity of it. In the picture the blue protective tape is still on the profile in case that matters. This is the best we could come up with for a pretty small area in a 60's track home with our basement remodel. We removed the heater and duct work from the basement and moved it into the attic as well as put a Rinnai tankless with circ and this allowed us the bath room area and enclosed W/D area. Comments (45)Would it be that we all aged at ninety plus to this?: Yes....... the wonderful lady, client and now dear friend is one whose apartment at senior living i remodeled, and also " mini re created" her former address. Will be 93 this summer, and she is INCREDIBLE. She doesn't shuffle, has no mobility issues..........however. Note no thresholds, area rugs that can come up. A kitchen with her favorite place to sit -at the counter on a Serena and Lily stool . We should all be so damn lucky. She wishes she had made the move SOONER and is enjoying the heck out of her busy life there. ( she's yapping on the phone second pic.... hard to catch up with her. Swim, bridge, duplicate bridge........"dinner with the WIDOWS" LOL " I have accepted that this will not be MY old age conditions, unless I cease eating and drinking.... and a lot of other stuff too : ) Folks? Go before you need to go. Don't cling to junk. Your kids don't want it. Or want a miniscule fraction of it. Whenever I read one of these "age in place" dilemmas? I think.....yeah.............right. You need friends, community, and spur of the moment help. Or as a doctor said to me: "At a little over eighty, your physiology balances on the head of a straigh PIN." Comments (51)Since the lady of the house loves the chairs, I suggest you re-design the master bedroom to feature them. If that's a no-go, then try the loveseat at the foot of your bed or in a spot that's good for watching TV there. Remove ALL the casegoods; none of them are working here, and you're already planning to get rid of the ottoman. If the TV were properly placed for optimum viewing, you'd be able to put papa's flag in a special holder on the mantel. TV should be with a credenza on the wall where you've positioned the loveseat; the bane of good arrangements and rarely sat on by more than one person. Moving TV will open the mantel for some great art as well. Add a rug in coordinating colors to the art. Don't go too large with the new coffee table....See MoreRelated Professionals
