Does painting old wallpaper make it much harder to remove later?
Comments (3)I have an old house from 1780. We bought it last year. Every room is wallpapered. We removed the paper in the kitchen and one bathroom. These rooms had sort of a semi-gloss paint under wallpaper and it wasn't that hard to remove the paper. Now I started in the upstairs hallway and boy that paper is stuck but good. Raw plaster (horsehair) underneath. So I call in the pros who had given me a $300 estimate to remove the paper in both of the hallways and up the stairs. Well after working on just one long wall, they say that it will cost about $3000 since the paper is so well-adhered. So I say stop stripping the paper and what are my options. They suggest sealing the paper and painting over it. I said fine, I can do that. So I tested some primer on it and nary a bubble appeared. So my solution is to just paint over it. Not my preference, but definitely easier on my wallet!...See MoreLove the fabric - who makes the chairs?
Comments (2)Jeanie, I bought a sofa and LS from Smith Brothers a couple of years ago. During my many visits to the retailer trying to select fabrics, I discovered the same fabric in the SB line that my DD had on her throw pillows on a Temple sofa. So I'm assuming that the manufacturers do use some of the same fabrics. I think Temple is around the same price range though. FYI, Smith Bros. is expensive, but well worth it. My previous LR furniture was 25 years old - reupholstered once, just because I wanted a change. I saw your chair in your other post - I like it. Tuesday...See MoreWho makes this wallpaper?

Comments (14)with the design around the fireplace, and the table and chairs you've chosen, a barn door like the one you pictured is too far 'country farmhouse' from what you have. Not going to work. So pick one of the 'more traditional' looking doors to use. you could also look at craigslist, or any flea mart or salvage yard for vintage style doors. you may luck out and find a really cool looking one. I actually made one for my closet using a door I found on craigslist for $25. I sprayed the glass to give it a mirrored effect, and painted it black. (found the hardware for it on craigslist too. $60!) found these online and stained, painted them and added the glass...See More- 7 years ago
