A great book to have for any home builder

I stumbled upon the most delightful book "The Architect says" by Laura S. Dushkes.

Just one inspiring quote

"People who build their own home tend to be very courageous. These people are curious about life. They're thinking about what it means to live in a house, rather than just buying a commodity and making it work." Tom Kundig (1954- )

When my husband asked about my role in building a house, I could not help but go into the complexities of politics of house construction, power expression in architecture, histories of various house parts, the ins and outs of construction, qualities of materials, shadows that trim cuts throw onto the surfaces below, and what not going into the house.

What are some unexpected things that you discovered that you did not know existed before your started building?
