Help, my 2 tomato plants are loosing leaves and have brown on stalks

Hi, I recently moved to Florida from Oregon. In Oregon, we grew huge tomato plants with lots of tomatoes. I thought i would try two tomato plants here to start. I bought healthy plants in June. This is what they look like now. They are watered every day. I know they will lose their leaves with too much or too little water. There are also brown spots on the stalks. Can anybody tell what I am doing wrong?

You're now in a different climate as well as totally different pest problems.

Just as in Oregon, it's wise to grow locally adapted kinds.

Suggest you become friendly with the Master Gardeners at your county's Extension Service office.

Yeah, growing tomatoes is totally different here in Florida. Those plants are done for. The good news is.... you now have two tomato seasons. Depending on what region of Florida, you should have new plants ready to be planted now. June is late for any part of florida, the temps are way too hot by then. Also, you might not want to do two plants in that container. I'm fairly new to gardening, but I've had pretty decent results with tomatoes in Florida, thanks to the experts on here and local growers.

Hi - I am no expert (I am having my own problems as well) but is there a chance that it could be sunburn? If there was a string of sunny days before the edges started turning brown, and the plants were indoors previously, I think that could be a possibility. Good luck and green growth to your leaves!

I'm relatively inexperienced with tomatoes, but this looks somewhat like early blight, could try to compare and use a diagnosis guide. The stem issues on the photos below look somewhat similar, but you'd want to check for similar leaf pattenr to confirm. If you DO have early blight, it's not that hard to control. Hello Carla. Beautiful dracena you have there. There is many reasons this issue could arise but like said earlier, it does look like it could be from over watering, even though I can not fully trust that conclusion as I do not know the circumstances. I definitely do not recommend having any plant in a water basin for twenty four hours as it gives the soil to much time to soak up water. Dracenas also hate tap water and can get brown tips from it. If you are using tap water I recommend cutting of brown tips and use distilled or Unchlorinated water. You could also allow water to sit out for 24 hours before watering so that the chlorine and fluoride can evaporate to a safe level. Hope that helped. Have a good day.

Welcome to Florida! Unfortunately tomato growing will likely be challenging - but I encourage you to not give up. I grow only heirloom varieties and spray nothing - and still harvest a lot of tomatoes. Are you in South Florida?
