I'D Help? 7-8' tall horseweed-like plant

Taller, stiffer, darker green, and not hairy like horseweed; leaves are rough but not hairy. And though was straight and un-branched, starting to branch quite a bit (maybe before blooming?). This is growing in a low spot in the garden where we grow plants that like wet soils, close to the Delaware bay. We thought it might be ironweed/

vernonia, but looks nothing like the other three types of vernonia we have. Should we yank it?
