I think the jar should be open so that the stuff inside can be seen. (Maybe you can put the cover underneath, or even lightly tape it to the bottom or back so it doesn't get lost.) Have what looks like a large curving piece of film coming out of the opening for at least a foot with either some of the prizes attached to it or writing (or pics) of what some of the major ones are in the "frames" of the film. I keep thinking of flickering light like from a movie inside the jar. Battery operated led "tea lights" flicker. Light would attract attention. Even a strand of led Christmas lights would get attention. Blinking lights might be appropriate - like a marquee. You can hide the cord coming out under the "film". there are battery operated light strands for wreaths, but they are hard to find at this time of year. A colorful appropriately sized "movie poster" could stand on top or be attached to the side depending on how it is displayed - you could make it on your computer, and it can relate to the auction and why people should bid on this. I don't think this is "over the top" unfortunately since htat is what youa re looking for. I think people will see that the jar can hold many things. Good luck. Kathy

What a great reading nook! I don't think this room needs much help at all. You have a rug and curtains all set. You will eventually get a seat cushion. There is a lovely space for some art- no need to rush that- the right pictures will appear. I would start with some throw pillows that will work with the eventual seat cushion you buy. I would consider if the space could use a console table opposite the bench. A nice landing spot for some books and magazines and a cup of tea. Would some sconces look good on the wall with the bench? Maybe you could decorate the bench wall with a framed wallpaper panel (framed with moulding, not picture framed.) I am always concerned about where my head rests when there is a bench against a wall like that- so it limits art installation. But really and truly you have a great space. Don't rush yourself. It will come together very nicely.

wow thank you groveraxle and everyone for input-amazing! Tend to like neutrals so didn't realize how much a bit of color can transform the space. Since I am visual, have a bit of trouble envisioning things unless actually seen. I had a neutral rug in mind (grey/beige/cream)- would love input if not a good decision or if it will work? I think the bedroom wall area is busy enough with the door decals. The photo of the framed posters up the stair wall looks really nice!
