Need help decorating this room from scratch
Comments (12)I am assuming this is a guest room....here are some basics.... 1. Extra fluffy towels, blankets and pillows 2. Wastebasket. 3. Clock 4. Space for clothes 5. Door hooks (over-the-door or door-mounted ones) 6. Iron If you have a limited area, you can get an over-the-door board or a tabletop ironing board that can rest on the bed, floor or low dresser. 7. Tissues 8. Basic toiletries 9. Full-length mirror 10. Hair dryer I also like..... a bedside table A comfortable chair with a table and a lamp (if space allows) A luggage rack A local visitor’s guide and personal suggestions. Special amenities. Leave a basket with an assortment of updated magazines, healthy snacks and fresh baked cookies. Other items to include are power bars, crackers and bottled waters. A small television, neatly tucked in the corner or inside a cabinet, is a nice touch when a guest enjoys watching their favorite cooking show or sitcom. For tech-savvy guests, place your WiFi password someplace visible, or in a pretty frame on the bedside table where they won’t miss it....See MoreLiving room makeover help. Working almost from scratch
Comments (82)Here's a picture of our old layout, minus the rocking chair that we had by the wall unit and the fireplace. And a picture of best layout incorporating all needs/stipulations I had to work with. The new layout has templates with existing tables that I will change as I am able. You can see how much the entry was blocked, I had 1 little picture to the right of the fireplace (sunset was in dining room) and that big honking wall unit with an analog TV and a small hand me down digital TV with a firestick on the coffee table and extension cords running from there to the fireplace wall. I think I've thought of every possible configuration of things and have gone back to the drawing board several times when I've run them by my husband. 100's of media consoles, sofas, fireplaces, floors, layouts. We use the turntable. The Ikea bottom cabinet doors slide....See MoreLiving Room From Scratch
Comments (35)As I’ve said before, the carpet will be first to go, to be replaced by wood. The long couch and the loveseat will go. The TV stays, but I want to either hang it in front of the niche or (better) widen the niche on the right, toward the door, and hang it there, maybe on an extending arm so DH won’t complain about its being too far from his chair....See MoreDecorating from Scratch
Comments (13)I have been blessed with cats who do not shred furniture. Well, perhaps when they were very young, but not long and minimal damage. BUT - my indoor cat Pretty claws the woodwork! ugh. I have vintage mohair furniture in the library that is very fragile. Some areas are more stressed than others. My solution to cover up the gaping and ragged material along the bottom of both chairs and sofa was to sew lengths of fringe across the front. I used a heavier braided fringe in as close in color as I could get to the brown mohair. It works....See MoreMy3dogs ME zone 5A
