Somewhat OT: Status of igloochic's son? Part 2
Comments (17)Hey igloo -- I ken what you mean re Thomas the Train and internet shopping. When I was pregnant with DD, I went into scary early labor (which was stopped). I was sent home for bed rest after the hospital staff discovered that I am, ahem, a very bad patient because I ask too many questions. Well, I was on bed rest for two months. We set up camp for me in the family room on the sofa bed. I had the kitchen, a bathroom, the big screen tv, my laptop and ... a credit card. Since it was MUCH easier to think about her as a 5 year old playing dollies than it was to think about her as a possibly sick and early premie, I laid there on my side watching Netflix -- fabulous invention for the infirm and bedridden, btw -- buying up every single outfit, doll, dollhouse and accessory available for the Madeline dolls (from the children's story about the little girl who lived in Paris and had her appendix out). For four years, I've been saving these dolls (now out of production and probably worth a fortune), and this Christmas is pay load for DD! :)...See MoreSomewhat OT: Rusted 'Stainless' Flatware?
Comments (23)Okay, I was hoping to read this and get the answer. I DON'T SEE ONE PEOPLE! (Sorry...:D) My SS Situation: I have Oneida. My old cheap first set bought 30 years ago never rusted. It's packed away as an 'extra'. Melanie1422 when you mention your mom's set, is it older than yours? I wonder if they are all being made cheaper now? The new *Better* fancier one I got about 10 years ago rusts on the hollow butter knife handles. But ONLY on the hollow handles. I have been told that part was made using steel with a different percentage of nickel. Replacements Ltd. lists 'solid' knives in my pattern and eventually I figured on ordering some. But some of you are saying forks and spoons rust too? I haven't seen that, but a colleague who moved to Philadelphia from Massachusettes once complained to me "What's in the water down here? All my stainless is rusting!" So I thought it might be our water. I have a well, and the water has some iron in it. We have a filter to catch the majority of the iron particles, but I'm sure very tiny ones still get through. How many of you have wells? Or high iron content in your water? (reddish dirt in the yard?)...See MoreSomewhat OT: Status of igloochic's son?
Comments (150)lol ummm i already have that ladder thingie...it's in the garage waiting for the new kitchen so ds can bother dh while cooking heh heh maybe i should get it out for me! surgery went well but there are some follow up issues with bone density i'm told. i have to start sucking down calcium like a ummm calcium sucker (what eats calcium?) they also had trouble with the iv's so now both hands look as if i've been fighting off polar bears (whicj may be my new story LOL) i must say....being helpless sucks! and this kinda hurts more than it should! ok i must lay back down before nurse nasty (dh) finds me up! oh and we have checked celiac :) our sobs nurse has it so we had a fortunate leg up on that which most don't have. and we do go gluten free once every six months to see if ut helps since celiac seems to be a bit if a waxing waning (spell?) issue and our ped wants to be sure!...See Moresomewhat OT, Cost of hardwood floors (NJ) and what to look for
Comments (2)I think the grade of the wood is important. I cancelled an order of red oak Quatersawn from Lumber Liquidators. (Refused to sign the purchase contract until I could see it in person). I found them to have sent damaged wood with more than 15% of non select wood. I highly recommend you have the installer go with you and look at the wood you are going to purchase. It is worth it to pay him for this service. He can tell if it is truly select red oak with acceptable amount of "junk" pieces. (too many shorts, burr holes thru the TOP of floorboard, no. 1 pieces intermixed, bundle straps too tight making indents in wood pieces, forklift damages, etc) I had all this with the lumber liquidator wood and hence refused to pay for my order. I would not buy select from LL....See MoreUser
