I am not a great fan of oak in general, but I like the bed as is. It's classic and traditional -- not too country for me. I would also like it painted white, black, a color or stained darker or in a color. I think you have a lot of options there, but I'm not sure what you are trying to work with or if the things you have pictured are all to be replaced. Are you wanting to stay traditional and which color palette are you working with (do you know yet)? As far as the rest of the set, do those pieces meet you needs from a functional standpoint? If not, make some changes. If so, do you still like them and just want a fresh look or are you really tired of the set? Are you feeling tied to something that you don't know how to freshen up or that you don't really want to? How do you feel about painting or stripping and restaining. Could you DIY? Those questions are your starting point as far as I'm concerned. I don't toss furniture lightly, but I have moved a lot around from room to room. ;-) It looks like you have a lot of books. You could consider and end table with one or more shelves or even a bookcase on one side by the chair. I prefer a dresser that is nearly cleared, not covered, and just a few accessories. As I focus on that, I think your accessories are dating the room even more than the furniture. The dusty rose and green velvet as well as the red rose pillows are an older look. If you want something different, get updated pillow covers. I think you can use your quilts and give them new life just by accenting with updated pillows. I'd clear the dresser and start over. No runner, no frames -- just a couple of items that have some color and interest (I have a hand blow glass vase and a dresser tray with a painting above them -- no mirror). Seeing the crown on the center mirror, I think I'd replace the trio with a new, non-matching mirror. New lamps -- there are so many pretty options. Glass, dark metal or possibly simple chunky crystal would be what I'd be looking for, but you could find many options -- stone, marble, stained glass, etc. Get some art on the walls. HomeGoods might be a place to look for accessories, lamps, mirror -- even art from time to time, if you have one near by. I think you can change the accessories and get a lot of mileage out of a lot less money than new furniture. The one piece I'd be most likely to replace (other than the mirror) would be the nightstand. It seems low and small by today's standards and it looks like you could use something larger with a bookshelf and drawers below.

Lauren, Thanks for posting again. I understand since I get so busy myself and I am glad we all helped you giving you insight and finding out that the furniture you like at least is made in the USA and is very beautiful. When you have time, please update up and if you buy the set, pictures please. Remember to measure your room and areas that have vents and windows and see how each peace of furniture will fit in your room. I wish my room was bigger since I really wanted a wooden bed with a headboard and foot board and a triple dresser but these pieces would not fit into my bedroom space. When I have time, I also will take updated pictures of my beautiful bedroom since the accessories of the right lamps (went with crystal), blind and curtains really changed the look of my room making me love my bedroom's peaceful retreat space.

I would love to see a richer green on the walls, something more the depth of the trim on the comforter. After you paint, the next thing I would do is change the window treatments. I would like to see heavier panels (to balance the weight of the heavy furniture) that are wider, so that the inside of each panel sits on the outer edges of the windows when the panels are opened. This would then allow the one behind the bed (and the other should match) to be as wide as the bed is. It will make the bed feel like it fits in front of the window, rather than making the window feel awkward. I would also hang them halfway between the trim and the ceiling, to bring some interest up in the space to balance the height of the armoire. I would not change the headboard to iron. Once you get the curtains wide enough behind it, it will be perfect. Is there any way you could move the tv to the wall where the round iron piece is hanging? I see the cable connection is currently below the tv, but they are usually very inexpensive to move. We did it here in two rooms, and it was a very small charge. Then you could set that cute table on that wall, which would put the focus up higher and not on the heat duct at the floor. If it is not possible to move the tv hookup, instead of spending money on a cabinet to hide the tv, think about perhaps looking at an inexpensive flat panel tv down the road and mount that on the wall. No cabinet or table needed then. You can then put the taller of the two floral arrangements in front of the plugs and cable hookup, and contain the cords in a cord cover painted the color of the wall. For now, I would put the shorter of the two arrangements under the table, put the taller one in the corner by the closet where the chair is, and move the chair to where the two floral pieces are. I would get a more substantial bedskirt - the one you have is too lightweight imo for the bedding and the furniture. I would also love to see a decorative pillow to break up the pattern of the comforter and shams a bit - perhaps a creamy background with some type of pattern that pulls the colors in. Does the cedar chest have to stay? I think it is charming, but I would love a clear view of the bed and bedding without the wood in front of it. If you need to keep it there, down the road look for a larger rug that can sit a bit under the end of the bed and is at least as wide as the bed. The little green one looks, well, little. :-) Love the painted dresser in the bathroom. I would paint the little towel bar/cabinet over the toilet in black to match the dresser. A couple of pretty botanical/rose framed prints would be nice on the wall to the right of the vanity. As for the mirrors over the dresser, I would take them down but save them - you never know what you might want to do down the road. I could see one painted black and hung elsewhere as a mirror over a smaller table, for example, in an entry way. I would get a mirror to hang in the center of the dresser wall area, then wall sconces on either side to fill the space a bit. This mirror might be great - the colors are pretty, and the shape echoes the center panel of the dresser door: casbah mirror

Justgottobeme - Oh wow, that doesn't even look like the same bed. Thanks for doing that! Those finial things on the sides, would you screw them in? Not glue right? What about the cool thing in the middle? How does that get attached? I think they're normally pretty thin. For the cushion would it just be like making a large pillow? Using fluffy fill or batting? Wouldn't it get squished? I make a point to not sleep against the headboard but DH is another story. Then sewing some tie things on? I could handle that. As far as raising it up, I don't know how I would do that. Both the head and footboard are on wheels and there's currently slats that the bed frame rest in? I don't think the legs would touch the ground. I'd almost have to get some wood and make them longer. That could end up looking like a real botch job. :) I know DH has his heart set on a wood bed and deep down I want something "new" (used is fine but new to me). Plus we'd like to get a queen. I could try this for now and if we decide to go with wood I could use this in one of the spare rooms. AuntJen - Thank you! I wasn't going to focus on this room yet but now I'm excited and ready to go! It will be also nice when it's done because you can see the room (unless the door is closed) from the main bathroom entrance. I would like to have a home where all doors can stay open and look nice for company to see 98% of the time.
