Zebra print rug in kitchen

What colors should I coordinate with my zebra print rug that I am placing under a class kitchen table. Need ideas for sliding glass door curtains and window curtains for kitchen plus added area rugs in front of sink and at entry door to kitchen.

Zebra print is very versatile. What other colors and finishes do you have in the kitchen? Walls, floors, cabinets? Does the kitchen open to other decorated rooms in the house? Which colors do you like?

A kitchen is maybe not the right location for a zebra rug. Actually, rugs in a kitchen can be a headache for cleaning and safety.

Better suited for a dining room perhaps.

How about zebra painted stools? actually not a bad idea. bee the cathedral ceiling height is 11'4". the rest of the kitchen is standard 8 feet. annsch the island is 48" x 86". There is a 12" overhang.There is plenty of leg room. I was initially going to do 15" or 18, but i tried some of my friends' islands and found 12" was comfortable. Florantha, I love pink! I was actually thinking of purple accents. Question to all, do you think i could swing painting what is hopsack a charcoal gray or an off black? Although i like the hopsack color, I would like a little drama and i thought black would do the trick. there really isn't that much wall. Also, what to do for over the kitchen sink window?

kraftymom... hee hee hee... i really hope she'll like it :) anj...another betty boop fan? funnily i honestly thought it was betty boo... until everyone started writing boop! i quickly went and changed the spelling on my blog :DDDD zebra prints are really not that hard, you just have to get the first few stripes right then it just flows... luvs...thanks! zebra prints are one of my fav animal prints... so bold yet elegant :))) ooo... but i can't claim credit for the betty boop graphics... i got them from pictures and the net... naughty naughty... i hope no one's gonna sue me for copyright!

I just wanted to follow-up on the Zebra rug hunt. I finally gave up because I couldn't find one that was nice but affordable. So...I happened into Pier 1 recently and saw this black and white graphic wool rug and fell in love. It's 6 x 9 and was only $349 (from $399). I bought two because I have a "bowling alley" for a LR. It's long and narrow. I have two seating arrangements and anchored both with the rugs. The photos don't show the wall color perfectly. It's turquoise and not baby blue. As of now the accents are orange...I lucked upon the cane chairs with the vintage orange fabric a while back at an estate sale. However, I will make slip covers for them in a neutral fabric so I can change out the accent colors througout the year. Thanks for all your help on this subject. The people on this forum are the best! I enjoy hanging out here and soaking up everyone's great ideas.

I think zebra prints work with a wide range of interiors. They aren't that different from a black and white stripe fabric, except with softer and more naturalistic lines (which I think makes them even easier to use than the dramatic lines of a large B&W stripe). You can also fine toned down zebra stripes--brown & white, gray & white, taupe & cream, etc,--if black & white is too bold. I scanned a bunch of Houzz pics to see if I could suss out where they didn't work, and found I generally didn't like them in rooms with not a lot going on. In the room below, with the uninspired beige sofa against the beige wall, the zebra bench seems forced (although if the pic had been taken from the other angle with the bench framed against the rust-colored chairs, I might have a different reaction). Don't like: And to make my point on the reverse angle, here's the other side of the same room. I still don't love the interior as a whole, but I think the zebra fits in and doesn't feel forced. Here's another where the zebra print is the only interesting thing in the room. (Don't like)

I've had rugs in my kitchens for years. Never had a safety issue. If for some reason the combo of the floor and rug are slippery you can always add a pad. If you choose the right rug, cleanliness is not an issue. I've used indoor outdoor rugs or synthetics. Vacuum and spot clean as needed and take them outside and hose them off a few times a year.

What are your kitchen colors (wall, cabinet, counter)? What colors do you like? What is your style?

As d_gw said, zebra print is pretty versatile. It pairs well with bold colors or neutrals. If you do a Houzz photo search for zebra rug (I searched living photos because I thought there would be more examples than kitchen) you can see what prints others have paired them with. It's a wide range.
