August 2017 Quilting/Sewing Goals

I am very late in getting this up, but wanted to let you know, I have NO quilting goals this month! lol It looks like you all are doing well and keeping the home fires burning. I'll have to burn the midnight oil for the rest of the year to get caught up and to complete what I want to do. Grandson's girlfriend is a hair stylist and she worked me in for a quick trim (DD noticed I kind of got happy with the scissors that time I got really hot). I went to pay her and she said she couldn't take my money ..... I told her I'd make her a quilt. It helps to have all those quilt tops available in my UFO pile.

I plan to be home Labor Day week-end. Enjoy your month everyone and I'll check in when I can.

Sharon, have a wonderful time visiting family.

This weekend, I am in Ottawa with my daughter, her family, a son and his crew and we met the new baby. She is a keeper.

hope to get back to quilting in a week.

I'd like to finish this Pecking Order quilt. I'm a little over 1/3 of the quilting. I also need to go back and add some quilting to one quilt I recently made - it has minimum quilting in it because my foot pedal was on the fritz. If it sits too long it will get forgotten if I move on to something else and you all know how I hate unfinished projects. Technically it's finished but not to my expectations.

Sorry for abandoning this post........I watched a lot of the Olympics. Both of my goals were met and the quilt was sent and received. Now I need to get the Frozen panel quilt backed and quilted. Deadline is it's supposed to be in her hands by Oct 1 so I guess I better get on the ball. I made a couple of 24 X 36 quilt tops that I'll offer her for the girls' dolls, too. Do little girls even play with dolls anymore? I've also been playing around with a variation of the 100 patch quilt from Wedding Dress Blue. And, I'm gearing up to make some string blocks......can't decide what color to use as the center string. I'm not complaining but it's been so hot.......heat index was 119 one day.....cannot breathe if outside for very long and it just drains a person of any energy. Tennessee came in like a lion with all the bad storms yesterday. I am thankful for the warmer weather :-) I have my Sewn Seeds quilt on the long arm. I hope I can get started on that?? I also have 2 t-shirt quilts I need to get started on. I've not made one of them before, so I'll be back with advice on that! I'd like to get them laid out so I can get the stabilizer on them. I don't think it will take long if I can just get started on it. I do have a cute story to share..... There is a young guy (28) that exercises with us (community gym) in the mornings. He has a 1 yr old little boy and wanted to create a daddy-style "tactical" fanny pack to replace the diaper bag when they go out. I got him started on how to create a pattern and basic cutting and sewing techniques. I want you to know, he has taken off on this and you wouldn't believe how well he's done!!! He even bought his own sewing machine and dreams of sewing in his sleep!! He commented the other day that he wanted to stay home from work and sew! My boyfriend commented that he hears that from me all the time :-)

My only goal is to do SOMETHING! It's already getting hot, it's 88 degrees on my front porch in the shade, so maybe that'll get me back inside. That's funny about the biscuits, that's the only thing at that restaurant that's worth eating IMO. They have similar ones at Ruby Tuesdays so since we like their salad bar we can get them there. Donna, glad you're healing, just don't overdo. I do have some strips and scraps looking at me after I went through and sorted them all into color families - (probably 6 huge bags worth). I had asked my Grandson, aged 14 if he would do me a huge favor one day when I had to pick him up due to an early release day, just for laughs. When I explained what I needed done and showed him the bags you should have seen the look I got! LOL! So I told him I would pay him $10 to do it. Well you know the rest of THAT story. So I said "how much money would it take?". He couldn't come up with an answer. The only thing he could think to say besides "no" was "why?"

I'm not so sure about setting a goal about finishing it, but I do want to get as much as possible done on this new project I just started. It's called "Starry Night Squaredance" designed by Wendy Sheppard. I saw it in the Better Homes and Gardens Quilt magazine and the pattern is at RJR Fabrics. I am so glad that I really read all the instructions closely before starting it. The cutting instructions were correct but when I got into reading the piecing instructions something was different - it was saying sew the 2 inch squares to the 4 inch rectangles and the cutting instructions said cut all the squares 2 1/2 inches. So I suspected that the instructions were in err but I wanted to make sure I didn't miss something so I emailed the designer. She got in touch with RJR and it was an error and they corrected their instructions online. I've included a link to the pattern but the actual photo of the quilt in the magazine is really nice. Have a great trip, Sharon! We are leaving on a 2-week trip to Alaska on Friday, so I will be AFM, too (away from machine LOL). I am taking a hand applique project, so hopefully some of that will get done.

When we get home I'm going to tackle the next top in the "waiting to be quilted" pile.

I would love to finish DD's quilt. Since I'm having a problem on the other quilt (another thread) and need someone's advice, maybe I'll go work on her backing right now.

Sharon, sorry you couldn't stop by, but looks like it wouldn't have worked out anyway.

Nothing planned in particular aside from the August lotto blocks and binding the kitty quilt. It's time to think on the holidays that are ahead and see what needs to be done. I have a good bit of fall - winter fabrics but it's so hot in Texas right now it's hard to think about the cooler part of the year --- whenever that is!
