Tell me about Ambridge Rose
Comments (32)HERITAGE (English) - shell pink; two trained as climbers. THE PILGRIM (English) - blush yellow; two trained as climbers. These four roses are trained as climbers up a west facing trellis attached to my house. The roses are fronted by a raised flower bed, constructed from native stone, containing reblooming bearded irises in shades of blue-white-lilac-pink, dwarf shasta daisies, dwarf purple coneflower and lavender. Central stone path planted with creeping thyme, johny-jump-up violets and creeping Roman chamomile. New flower border: SHARIFA ASMA (English) - light warm pink Lavender AMBRIDGE ROSE (English) - apricot pink Lavender HAPPY CHILD (English) - canary yellow Stone steps leading up to potting shed. Right side of steps planted with sunflowers and lavender. Left side of steps planted with 2 MOLINEUX (English, yellow blend), annual blue cornflowers, and violets (var. Etain; LOVELY fragrance!). Just to the right, at the top of the steps, against a trellis attached to east facing fence wall: EVELYN (English) - apricot pink ABRAHAM DARBY (English) - smoky pink blushed coppery apricot More Lavender Front of potting shed (facing north) planted with Prince Charles Clematis, foxgloves, native bleeding hearts, monkshood and perennial forget-me-nots (var. Looking Glass and Jack Frost). BTW, the F-R-A-G-R-A-N-C-E!!! Between the irises, then the roses, followed by the chamomile, lavender, coneflower, thyme and sweet violets. It is positively orgasmic. Just make sure to watch out for the bumble bees - their EVERYWHERE. Hope this helps, Patrick...See MoreTell Me About the Austin Rose 'Emanuel'
Comments (8)I think the reason you don't hear much about this rose is because Austin dropped it from his lineup because of its lack of blackspot resistance. Blackspot is quite rare here so this rose is disease free for me. In my climate it repeats really well. Color intensifies in summer. I haven't figured out if it is intense heat or intense sunlight that causes it. Last summer I noticed that Emanuel and Crown Princess Margareta were the same color. Crown Princess fades and Emanuel darkened to matching shades. I have a couple of pictures of Emanuel at help me find showing the different colors. It has a good licorice type fragrance. Mine is own root and in full sun and only gets very late afternoon shade. I think you made a great choice (as long as you don't live in a major blackspot area). PS. Jeri, that's interesting what you say about the multiflora wearing out. One of my WS2000s on multiflora became chlorotic and started declining and I found a touch of blackspot and mildew on the other one of them. Never a bit of disease on my Huey-WS2000. I am gaining new respect for Dr. Huey, especially in my almost 8 ph soil....See MoreOk tell me about Rouge Valley Roses
Comments (70)So they finally refunded my money after seven weeks, three emails, and four phone calls. For those who want to defend Rogue Valley Roses - (1) The reason I describe RVR as "under new management" is, the not very polite man I spoke with told me, during the first of my four phone calls, that "the owner had fired everyone and put in new management" and, according to him, that was why they hadn't responded to any of the emails I had sent them. (2) If you are personally acquainted with the owner and have reason to sympathize with the owner's problems, that's fine. If you have had a recent good experience with RVR, that's fine. But, in the real world, those of us who deal with internet businesses need accurate information on whether they can expect a good experience and this means that individuals should post accurate accounts of their own experiences. My experience with RVR between February and May 2017 (typo corrected, this originally said 2015 causing confusion infra) has been absolutely horrible and I strongly recommend against dealing with them until they get their management issues straightened out....See MoreTell me about your most underrated roses!
Comments (42)I have a couple that are under rated. One is Medallion. I got my original in a body bag from KMart years ago. Of course at that time, I did not know that roses needed 6 to 8 hours of sunlight and that they should be on the East side getting morning sun. So what did I do, I planted him at my office on the west side of the building. I built a little retaining wall right up next to the building over part of the black asphalt parking and filled it with dirt.... yes a bad idea, but he doesn't seem to know it. He doesn't get sun til about 2 and when he gets it, he has to deal with the heat and reflection of afternoon sun off a white building. He is a TROOPER and puts out beautiful large blooms. Doesn't get black spot. Though I guess, I just learned he will never get to be a queen because he will never have a high center, but he will always have my heart for those huge buds and flowers..... my 2nd under rated would go to Regatta, because I have friends who shovel pruned theirs, but mine is putting out bloom after bloom..... The only thing about her is I wish I would have put her in a different spot, because she gets BIG and she has thorns.... lots of thorns, and she is right by a doorway....See Moremossy44_z7bwa
