It should be okay to keep eating it unless you want the seed. IME, it tastes about the same whether it has flowers or not.

Thanks, Mary. The puzzling thing is that we had a very cold, wet spring, with soil temps in the 40s and weather at night in the 30s well into May. There was a snowstorm the day before Easter. It took lettuce nearly a month to germinate. I couldn't have planted it more than a couple of weeks earlier, because the ground was frozen. I suppose I could wait for a break in the weather in March, and pour boiling water on the ground to loosen the top layer (and melt any ice or snow).

I doubt you will have a problem with your cats eating miners lettuce in small quantities. I know the cats we had at the second ranch I grew up on had free range of the place, miners lettuce rgew everywhere and I have no doubts the cats sometimes ate the stuff. The cats never had any ill effects from it....I love the stuff, great with green goddess salad dressing, hmmmmmmmm
