Best cabinet liners?
Comments (11)Before we did our kitchen remodel, Mike's aunt put contact paper on all of the shelves. I think she would have done it on brand new cabinets, since since they were old, I didn't stop her. It wiped off really well. We never did change out the bathroom cabinets and it was still there 10 years later when we moved. I really prefer not to use anything and just wipe out as needed. My DH was always taught to put glasses open end down which makes no sense to me. He said it was to keep the dust out. What dust? We go through every glass in the house several times a week. Why put the part for your mouth on the surface which may accumulate something? I've had the cushy ribbed stuff. Mine was Rubbermaid, but it always bunched up at the back of the cabinet. I must push things in, rather than set the directly down. I wonder where your DH got his $5,000 figure? Even if you guys do every bit of the labor yourselves, you'd never be able to get new cabinets and materials for that price. Maybe if you just painted and put on a new laminate counter. Comments (3)Look at the object you are painting and make a quick plan. The goal would be to not brush or roll back into areas that have already started to set. These days if you are using a latex/acrylic, you will have less than a minute. Because of the fast dry times, it can be more efficient to roll out the entire door/drawer and then backbrush everything the way you like it. Generally, I will do panels first, and try not to get too much paint outside of the panels. Then you would do horizontal areas with the edges included and then vertical areas with the edges included....See MoreDrawer/Shelf Liner for brand new cabinets?
Comments (12)I LOVE my Cushy Cupboard liners. A bit more expensive but worth it and installation is easy. Installation tip that worked well for me...line the drawers with 8 1/2 x 11 colored paper making sure the edges are flush against all four sides of the drawer. Then tape together where the paper overlaps to use as a template. Tape the template to the liner and cut with a blade using a long metal straight edge as a guide. Be sure not to cut at an angle or you'll have a beveled edge. The colored paper helps to differentiate between the white liner and paper when cutting. I did this process separately for each drawer (even within the same drawer bank) because I found there are ever so slight variances between the drawers. Perfect fit every time....See More"High-End" Cabinet/Drawer Liners for Kitchen?
Comments (31)What do you mean by liners? Are you actually thinking of organizer type of things or are you literally describing some kind of cloth or paper material that goes on the bottom of a shelf or drawer so that the dishes or pots don't touch the surface? My cabinets were fully custom including every aspect of the interior. I had the cabinet maker build a knife rack for the drawer next to my prep area. I also had a drawer near the dining area lined specifically with the kind of anti-tarnish felt/velvet and I use that for my silver table stuff. Other than that I look intensively at high end cabinet lines which have all kinds of stuff that can be used to configure the interior of cabinets and decided that I wanted to keep my options open in terms of configuration. I am now having my cabinet maker comb back to retro fit some stuff now that I have been using my kitchen I have a small armoire that I bought for my jewelry and I located a place that does completely custom inserts for jewelry. I had a schematic done and ordered exactly the size and configuration I wanted for each drawer - some are divided into various sizes to hold different sizes; some hold watches; some hold rings; some earrings etc....See MoreSRK
