Question regarding single bowl farm-style sinks
Comments (3)I have a Barclays single bowl farm sink and love it. Not sure the exact size, 30" or 36". It has turned out to be a pleasant surprise in the kitchen. Knew I loved the look, but have loved the functionality of it better than my old double bowl sink. I love how I can stack all my dishes and cups down there and they sit nicely without sliding and toppling over and are out of site. The drain and garbage disposal act as one though. I don't often plug the sink with water to wash dishes, but if you do and go to rinse with new water you are adding to the plugged sink water. You can't drain until you let all the water out. I can see how people would not like that, but when I had wash a dish. I just put a little soap on it scrub then rinse and don't bother filling the sink....See MoreSingle bowl sinks and drain location
Comments (12)I have the Precis super single in metallic. I couldn't decide on the Precis or the Diamond. Both are so similar. I chose the Precis when the designer at my marble fabricator's office suggested I use the Precis as the quilted bottom looked more "pro." She thought that given my layout and appliances that it would look better. Since I have a trash/recycling pullout on the island, I didn't have to worry about squeezing much under my sink so I went with her suggestion. Either would have been great, but I had to decide at some point! Now the story sounds silly. :) I have no issues at all with the middle rear drain. I don't think I ever really block it with dishes, and the bottom seems nice and flat. Things don't fall over, and it drains and dries very, very well. Oh, and I think if you use the Diamond undermounted, your fabricator has to cut the flange off the back anyway to make room for your plumbing fixtures....See Moresingle bowl sinks, centered drain vs side drain
Comments (15)Imagine you are a right-handed person, scrubbing a baked-on cookie sheet. You're holding the cookie sheet tipped up with your left hand, and scraping and scrubbing toward the drain -- easily done because the drain is in the right rear corner of your sink! If it were in the center, the cookie sheet would more likely cover the drain -- you wouldn't be able to set it down flat to scrub without covering that drain -- a colander with vegetables would have to straddle that center drain instead of sitting securely in the bottom of the sink pitched toward the right rear center. The crusty pan that is soaking in your sink does not cover the drain that you need to quickly rinse something else. It's just better design. If you are a left-handed person, you might want the drain in the left corner. Lynn...See MoreDisposal in single-bowl sink?
Comments (16)Add me to the list of folks who have a single bowl sink and don't' understand what his issue was. Insinkerator does make a large portion of all disposals you are likely to see. I would suggest getting one of their newer Evolution series. Doens't have to be one of the big ones. I think the compact model is 3/4 HP and just a little smaller that the larger ones -- much quieter than the older models. We put one in the prep sink but didn't replace the main sink one (it's the only thing that didn't get replaced because ir was new before the remodel). If we'd known it would have been so much quieter, we might have replaced it too. Oh well, when it breaks or we run out of other things to be doing.........See MoreAnglophilia
