Bio-filter plant recommendations for full sun
Comments (6)Creeping jenny I have. The water hyacinth would fall down the waterfall. My impatiens were sitting in water, and their leaves yellowed and looked icky. Same as last year, so out they came. Any other suggestions?...See Morewhat to plant -FULL - full sun
Comments (4)The continuously-blooming part may be difficult. I was going to say sedum until I saw that. Well, I have a veronica called Blue Carpet that I use as an edging in one of my hot, dry beds, and it does quite well. The foliage is only about three inches high, and the bloom spikes are maybe 6 to eight inches. It does not bloom continously, but it does rebloom. I'd still have to go with the sedum - not continous bloom but the foliage is so pretty... :) Dee...See Morehelp me plant cottage garden full sun
Comments (14)I lost a pine tree about 6 years ago and made a similar-sized cottage garden in the sole sun-space it made in my yard. I have had fun with reseeders that don't take too much water but have dragged a hose during some drought weeks. Here are some additional water-thrifty and long-blooming suggestions: melampodium (reseeds), salvia coccinea, both the pink-and-white and white reseed, tall ageratum (watch this one - can take over but rips up easily enough), white and yellow, red four-o'clocks, belamcanda, dianthus velvet n lace and sooty, agastache rugosa, rosemary, lambs ears beside crimson pygmy barberry, coreopsis superman, lantana chapel hill, daylily pardon me, happy returns, feverfew, vinca, chrysanthemum, penstemon iron maiden, bellflower (platycodon), black and blue salvia, and Johnny's has "gruppenblau" salvia farinacea seed that I planted 5 years ago that has been perennial here in 7A. I did try larkspur, corn poppies, batchelor buttons last fall at Thanksgiving and had low germination for the amount of seed spread but not covered - thought maybe a small amount of mulch might have helped but from Tamelask's comments, maybe not!...See MoreHelp with curb appeal and full sun plants
Comments (52)Mrs. Applegate, I am sorry you did not get the input you needed. And the input you did get is extremely questionable. One of the primary issues with this forum is that many of those offering advice have no experience in landscape design and not enough plant or horticultural experience to be giving out advice. Especially in parts of the country they are not familiar with. Moving your Japanese maple now has very likley sealed its fate.....possibly the worst time of year you could have done so. btw, many cultivars of Japanese maples are able to grow in full sun, with red leaved dissectums like your Crimson Queen prime among them. And you certainly do not want to plant a silver maple!! They are almost weed trees, get huge rapidly (50'+ and with an equal canopy spread), have a very surface oriented and aggressive root system that can interfere with driveways and sidewalks as well as any underplantings and they are weak wooded and prone to storm breakage. A really poor choice for a suburban garden regardless of location. FWIW, you would be much better off visiting a local garden center and asking for help. Quite possibly they have a staff designer or at the very least, someone who can help you pick plants appropriate to your location and setting. The recommendations and advice you have received here are pretty much a joke.....sorry....See Moregardenweed_z6a
