AGGGGG prom dress shopping tonight...........
Comments (6)OMGoodness!! Some of my worst memories of my girls growing up revolve around prom dress shopping. If that wasn't bad enough, they had several formal dances throughout high school, so I feel like I've done this lots. With the oldest DD we went to Dallas, looked all day and she came home crying, went to a boutique here and within 5 minutes found the dress of her dreams. It used to exhaust me. I got to the point I didn't care what they cost. One year one of the DDs borrowed one from a friend. That was WONDERFUL!!!...See MoreUp for more dress shopping?
Comments (43)Sorry to have gone AWOL, but it was a crazy week at work and I hadn't had a chance to shop (or sleep). One good thing with being busy is that I've lost 4lbs so I will try to keep going with that and hopefully feel more comfortable in whatever I choose. I appreciate the further suggestions. I had been thinking I had to have sleeves of some sort, but that daisy dress that mtn posted got me to try on a similar yoke style and it seems to help to slim the upper arms. April, I have been searching ebay and don't mind used just haven't found anything. Outside, yes I am sooooo long waisted, too. Short little legs, but long waist. Our best online dept. store is the Bay and I've got a couple on order (see pics below). Not sure what I'll do if the dept. store goes the way of the dodo bird. Anglo, I love that dress. However, I think the jersey makes it too casual for this event. If it weren't so pricey, I'd order it for everyday. Spanish, I really like that, but I tried on a similar one and it was very body concious. If I could be sure I could lose that 10 lbs it would be lovely, but if not, I think every jiggle would show :( Justterrilyn, I tried on the twin to that one yesterday in black. It is definitely in the running. I like how it just skims over everthing, but is still a little bit sexy. These are the ones I've ordered so far. I'm still thinking about the pants or a skirt and that is why the little pink jacket. ETA: sorry, not sure why the pics are miniature....See MoreDress shopping hell
Comments (78)Frequently, the things I sell are NWT, but often several years old. Here is an extreme example from several years ago. I purchased an indoor jacket that just didn’t fit quite right. I was going to a meeting in Chicago and needed the weight of the jacket so I kept it. On the way to the airport, we had a car wreck. I never made it to the meeting and never got the jacket altered. After pushing it around in my closet for several years, I sold it. Another example is I bought a cute pair of light blue suede flats. The blue just didn’t go with anything I had. I kept thinking I would get something that would work with them. Never did. Finally sold the shoes. My NWT sales are usually the result of poor judgment on my part coupled with unrealistic optimism that the item will have a metamorphosis and look better in the future. By the time reality sets in, it is too late to return it....See MoreWedding Attire Follow Up: Help w Shoes
Comments (90)Annie, you are right... and that was my thinking in ordering it even after I discovered that the daisy dress now fits. However, where it is a little too big now is in the bodice.. for a surplice dress that means some gaping. At my current weight, i can tack it or pin it... but as I lose more weight (knock on wood), i imagine I will lose more through the bust and back which could make the gapping more than a pin can manage. IDK. I do have wide shoulders and a large rib cage -- meaning the bones, not the fat on top lol.. so it may not be too bad. I think the waist/hips etc will be fine and very adaptable-- though the waist and tie are sewn in vs an elastic band. This is part of what makes it attractive IMO.. it looks more presentable AND it cinches in more than an expandable elastic band. I tried it on yesterday "as I was".. hair in a ponytail, slippers and (ahem) no bra. I thought it looked flattering and nice even then. I will try it on this weekend with proper undergarments and shoes and see what I think. It isn't terribly expensive so if it looks great when done up, I will likely keep it. I think it could work for a lot of occasions ... and since my weight loss is slow/steady, I would imagine it would work for awhile without alterations-- but weight loss is a funny thing. You can't always predict what will change. (Also, I will continue to watch to see if the smaller size comes back in stock) Thanks all for your thoughts, encouragement and recommendations!...See Morehhireno
