First of all, if you like what you are using now, try to solve the problem before purchasing a new vacuum cleaner. The Hoover WT will clean thick carpeting very well. There are a few things that could be happening. First, the rug that you put down may have a plastic backing. This would seal the rug. When your vacuum runs over this rug, there is no where for the air to pull through the rug. The Hoover then becomes "stuck" to the rug. The same would happen if you put down a rug on a flat floor without a pad. You said that you put these rugs over your wall to wall, so the WTW would act as padding. Does your Hoover have the same sealing issue when you vacuum the WTW? It most likely does not. Also, since you are smelling rubber, your belt is slipping. When was the last time you changed the belt? Put on a fresh genuine belt, then lower the height of the vacuum just enough to hear a change in air movement and vibration from the brushroll. I can recommend some vacuum cleaners, but I would rather wait until you have tried what I suggested first.

From the photobucket picture, you'll see several boxes either beside or below the picture. One of these will be HTML. Click on HTML with your cursor. A yellow box will appear saying copied. Then go to the message box here and write your comment in the message box. Select where in your message you'd like your photo. Hit paste. A link will appear that will be to your picture, but when you preview, the actual picture should be there instead of the link. If it's not there, try again before submitting the message. I agree with Lindsay that wool is by far my favorite for rugs in living and dining areas. However, they are the most expensive, so depending on your budget you might look into PET, a synthetic made from recycled plastic. It sounds very weird, but I just purchased one from Annie Selke and it looks and feels just like wool. It is also indoor/outdoor and can be washed with soap and water. Sisal, sea grass and jute are also great looks at reasonable prices. I wouldn't use them under a dining table since they can stain and are more difficult to vacuum. Sisal and sea grass are also not comfortable to walk on in bare feet. Jute is a bit softer underfoot. Many designers use large sized sisal/jute rugs under smaller, more expensive wool rugs.
