Grout depth on wood like tile

Hi there,

We recently upgraded our flooring to 8x40 rectified porcelain wood-like-tile with 1/16 grout lines. Overall, the installer did a good job. He used the Raimondi system to level the tiles.

We walk barefoot around the house. As we walk, we can feel the sharp edges of the tile on the feet. We are trying to figure out how to fix this (if it can be fixed). Only thing I can think of is maybe trying to bring the grout upto the tile level. Our installer says that the grout is supposed to be little deeper then the tile, and not level with it. He also thinks that if he did add on more grout, there's a good chance it will not stick very well on top of the existing grout and may come off in bits and pieces.

I wanted to find out if on typical installations the grout is supposed to be deeper then the tile? If we do install additional grout, is it more prone to coming off?

I have attached some pictures for reference. Thanks.
