We have looked at over 75 houses and lots. We have $150000.00 to make changes. The house being on a lot with one of the most popular fly fishing spots around make it worth the headache of a remodel. A builder has looked at the house and says the bump outs aren't really structural as long as they stay under 4 feet extended out. Basically like adding a box bay window. Not to go into overkill regarding our needs, but we have 10 dogs, we will still have 6-7 by the time we move. Finding an area that allows for us to build a kennel severely limits where we can live. We have to find areas with really mellow hoa rules. If it makes any difference, this is how the front will kind of function, minus the second story. The steps to the right are where visitors will enter. Bump outs are in red siding. Pretty much no one but me, DH and 2 kids will use the other steps as there will be a gate across the driveway. We will leave at least one dog loose in that area, deter intruders and but mostly to keep deer out of the garden area that wraps around the back.

pottery barn sells silk dupioni drapes with black out liner option. or they used to. i've had mine for 7 years now and look great. i'd do 4 panels, on rings, and buy a curtain tender. i think a wall of silver, floor to ceiling, at night would look just fine. better than 3 rectangles in a row.

There are some attractive arched drapery rods that might be the answer somethin like this with blackout drpaes that can be closed at night.

Hey There: I don't know how dark you guys need your bedroom to be to sleep, but shutters do not give you a black out in your bedrooms. We have installed a lot of honeycomb black out shades between the window and the shutters to achieve this. Roller shades have a similar problem. The fabric is recess about 1/2 to 3/4 inch on each side to make sure the fabric can travel on the roller but this also allows for a lot of light coming in.
