Using 12x24 wall tile as backsplash?
Comments (9)I thought to use this wall tile mainly because I wanted the counter backsplash to go higher up the wall instead of the standard 4". It seems the drywall always gets water spotted around the handtowel hanger no matter how careful we are not to splatter water and to wipe down. I didn't think the simple white quartz going up the wall any higher than the 4" would look right. By reusing the wall tile from the shower, it 'could' balance the room. I'm not using any trim tile (no accent mosaic) or I would maybe repeat that here. I did think perhaps I'd get tile installer to cut the 12x24 to a smaller size (6x24?, 6x12?) maybe to break the pattern up a bit. But, not sure if that is even doable. This is my first bathroom remodel so on a steep learning curve. Tks for the feedback so far....See MoreNeed ideas for tiling bathroom with 12 x 24 tiles
Comments (5)Plenty of rugs won't save you. I was giving the lab a bath. He bolted out the bathroom door after the bath and I rushed to close the door because it was drafty. He scrambled the rugs on the way out, I slipped and fell into the door jamb and broke my wrist. Would not use the tiles that are linked on a floor. They have R9 Slip Resistance rating which is the least slip resistant rating....See MoreMarble-look shower tile that works well with quartz lagoon
Comments (8)Where are you located? Here in CA tile showrooms are not completely closed. They will make a one-on-one appointment and let you in to look and get some samples, with everyone wearing masks. Many companies are also good about mailing samples. I requested a sample from Porcelanosa last week and they mailed it immediately and I got it 3 days later. The problem with the marble look tile samples is that they are cut from the larger tiles and the colors you see in your sample could be the main color in the tile or a very very tiny part of the whole color scheme. You can also look for online photos of the samples you get, to see the actual patterns when installed in a whole room. There is a wide variety in the overall look of marble-look tiles, ranging from very grey/blue to very beige, so I would not want to commit to something from a tiny sample. Comments (3)porcelain tiles, matte/shiny, all clean the same. not a bit deal. tiles on the shower floor (mosaics) can go up to 4". the grout provides traction. you can do larger tiles on the floor if they are suitable for wet areas and are a matte. but using larger tiles on the floor is difficult w/a slope. ifi you have a great tile guy, you can try something like this, (it's a honed basalt) but using a mosiac is easier. always look at the specs on the tile you're considering. it will plainly tell you about usage (wet or dry) , cleaning, and how to install mosaics are fine w/kids. look back into the bathrooms from 100 years ago. they always had mosaics. the grout provides all the traction. using a larger honed or matte tile is also fine. I have a 4x16 marble (honed) in a chevron layout in my bathroom and it's not the least bit slippery In my shower I did a 3" marble hex tile. also not slippery floor I did for a client. 12x24 charcoal porcelain outside, porxelain mosaic in the shower you could also go w/a larger, textured type of tile if you don't want a mosaic on the outside. Ivy Hill Artmore Venecia is a good one. it's porcelain that looks like a terrazzo. it has some 'bite' to it so it's not slippery....See MorePat
