Dry creek bed help

Good morning. Looking for ideas to increase the naturalness of this dry creek bed we started. I think I made the mistake of making it a tad to deep and to save some money used standard 1"-2" washed gravel vice river rock for the base. However, my intent was to lay the larger river rock in a more "random" pattern and then just order a few tons of 1"-2" river rock to fill in on top of the washed gravel. I probably should have laid the larger stones first, but I was concerned about the wash gravel filling up to high on them. I also hope to order some large Tennessee boulders to add some depth a key turns. Thoughts? I'm sure there are a couple different ways to go so interested in any ideas. Thx!
