Front load vs top load washer
Comments (26)I am so very happy to have an old-school top loader again. My front loader finally bit the dust and we didn't even bother to try to have it fixed. It was here in the house when we moved in - we're kicking ourselves for paying extra to keep the set, we should have installed our old ones - and these were awful from day one. The first pain was the kamikaze clothing that leapt out from both washer and dryer when the door opened or you pulled something big out. It sucks that something you've just washed has to wait to get cleaned again. Plus, with a bad back, I didn't like bending down so far. It is infuriating that you need to spend extra money on those pedestals to raise them up, and laundry baskets won't fit under either door without them, so, again, when the door opens, things can hit the floor, which is horrible. The machines come out of the box with this huge flaw and you need to spend $150.00 minimum to make them work as they should. They should just be taller from the outset. Also, I like pulling things up out of the washer and then putting them straight into the dryer without having clean wet clothes go into a basket that has previously had dirty clothes in it. Then came the smell. Now it's possible that the previous owner pre-fouled the thing, but that gasket? Where water ALWAYS was? Yak. Mold city. No amount of bleach and cleaning would keep this thing clean. My clothing is now much cleaner after just a week of having a top loader again. I'm very sensitive to detergent left in fabrics, and mine are once again clean and my towels are far more absorbent. It's possible that a new machine, for way more money than I just paid for my new GE top loader, might be better, but we didn't want to spend that much and are happy to have the old style machine back....See MoreSpeed Queen FL vs Maytag Bravo vs Electrolux
Comments (17)I did a lot of research on Speed Queen before I bought Maytag Bravos, including reading reviews SQ owners had posted at various websites. Lsck of capacity was not the only reason I felt SQ would not meet my needs. Lack of spin speed was another, and at least one reviewer complained about plastic parts. IMO, SQ is also over-priced. A previous poster is very mistaken in his/her comment about HE toploaders, particularly concerning Maytag Bravos. Laundry DOES move while it washes, and our comforters (including a king-size comforter) come out very clean and fresh after being washed. If one hasn't actually owned and used an HE toploader, s/he can't give an experienced review. Also -- all HE toploaders are not equal, another thing non-owners may not realize. Friends and relatives who have Oasis, Cabrio, and GE's HE toploader have reported problems I have not had with my Bravos washer. Comments (20)I have a 2016 SQ top load washer. It's the same in every way as the 2017. I had to buy a dryer at the time of my washer purchase. I passed on the SQ dryer as it seemed overpriced for a dryer for my needs where I am going to use ON and OFF; not any speciality cycles. Going off the dimensions of the SQ TL washer when I was dryer shopping, I found TWO dryers that would fit nicely with my washer. Most are too big and will not match up size-wise. I had to go down to a 6.something cu ft dryer. Hotpoint, (made by GE and a budget brand) and Whirlpool made the dryers that would match according to size. While I was not off put by having a different brand washer and dryer, I did want them to look and feel like they did belong together according to height and depth. I choose the Hotpoint since I figured they were both going to be disposable dryers--Hotpoint was less expensive at the time. I have a nice even working surface with the washer and dryer for folding laundry and putting stuff on top when I am moving things around organizing which I appreciate....See MoreWhich Speed Queen Top-Load Washer?
Comments (35)We bought the TC5 late last month and I love it so much! It replaced a GE front loader that was only 3 years old. I love doing laundry now - our clothes and towels are a lot softer and smell cleaner, even without using a detergent with any fragrance. It washes so quickly and things have just come out really clean. I love it and won't go back to anything else. We also got the 10yr warranty with it through the end of the year. The 2018 TR models got terrible reviews, I'd definitely stay away from those. For the TC5, if you have it on Normal Eco it only washes on cold and with less water. The other cycles use more water and any temp. We wash almost everything on the bulky cycle with warm water and it fills up about 3/4 with water. We've used the deep fill option a handful of times. I do about 8-10 loads or more a week. I recommend!...See MoreHU-308542269
