Whirlpool Front Loader Model WFW9600
Comments (1)I'm not sure what model that is, but I purchased the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer 5 years ago. Although I like being able to put a comforter in the washer, I'll not purchase another Whirlpool product again. I'll tell you why. This set is very expensive. I had purchased an extended warranty which has just ended. It has had a few repairs, mostly minor, but has had a board replaced. The dryer had to have three boards and some other parts replaced when new before it finally worked right. The dryer so far is still O.K. The washer cannot be used on the Sanitary cycle anymore because I keep getting the "F 06" failure, which is a problem with the computer board having gone bad for that cycle and makes the motor overheat. It still works O.K. (so far) on the other cycles. I am not getting this machine repaired again. We are starting to build a new home, and I'm going back to a top loader. The top loader I will be buying is going to be as simple as possible with manually selected water levels. For the record, Whirlpool customer service leaves a great deal to be desired. Their attitude is that "a washer only lasts 5 years". My reply was that for that amount of money I expect longer than 5 years. I know people rave about the front loaders working so much better. I beg to differ. My first front loaders were Maytags, and the Whirlpools are my second round of front loaders. I don't feel they rinse as well. Yes, I use HE soap, and only about a Tablespoon at most, sometimes half that....far less than the line in the cap. I do not fill the drum all the way full of laundry. I leave space. Towels stay soapy. In my opinion, a load like towels needs more water than what I'm seeing in there. Sandy...See MoreRecommendations needed for basic Top Loader washer
Comments (10)White porcelain is slightly higher quality, as it's a heavier coating. However, all the materials are of accordingly "lesser robustness" nowadays. When you consider that an upper-middle Whirlpool washer (model LDA7800W2) cost $369 in 1976, and you're looking at machines 34 years later at $379 and $329, something has to give to allow it. :-) Whirlpool has been producing this direct-drive mechanical design (with a few changes along the way) for over 26 years under the Whirlpool and Kenmore brands. KitchenAid, Roper, Estate, Inglis, and now Maytag, Amana, and Admiral. Some of the model/brand lines were slightly more durable (such as KitchenAid when they carried laundry, with heavier motors, porcelain tops and bronze bearings on the dryers). One or two Maytag models have stainless steel baskets. Otherwise, A = B = C....See Morewhirlpool wtw4800 or he top loader with bulky cycle
Comments (3)There is another little trick on these "half HE" (I like that term) TL agitator models with the automatic water levels. When you turn the "Fabric Softener" switch to "Yes" regardless of whether or not you are actually using fabric softener, it will fill the tub all the way, bypassing the load sensing function. To the OP, I respect your desire to get an old-fashioned TLer with a water level switch, but keep in mind that even with those machines, they have energy-saving features that make them different than they were in good ol' days. Specifically, water temperatures. Due to minimum efficiency requirements, manual water level machines can no longer wash in "true" hot water, i.e., straight from the hot water tap. It mixes about 1/3rd cold water into the hot when set to "hot", "dumbing down" the water to about 100F. Same thing with "warm". Warm used to be half hot and half cold, resulting in water of about 85-90F. Now, they use about 2/3rd cold and 1/3rd hot, resulting in "warm" water of about 78F. Do these lower temperatures still get clothes clean? Sure. Do they get them "clean enough"? That's hard to say, but thermal energy is part of the laundry equation, and when you take it out... "True" HE machines, because they use less water to start with, do not have these dumbed-down temps. They still use true hot and warm that is really warm. Millions of people have bought the Cabrios and Bravos, and have been perfectly satisfied, despite what some reviews say....See MoreWhirlpool TL-last good top loaders
Comments (8)It is actually unusual for your dryer to die so it begs the question-have you checked all of the ducting to make sure that it's clear? Does your older washer have a lint filter that you can easily access and clean? To me, a lot of water and those filters are what made those older machines fabulous from the users perspective. They also almost never broke down which is probably why they're no longer made. Today's machines are supposed to last about seven years.. Newer machines have less water and no filter ( although they do have a pump trap). Are you certain that you want a Top-loader? If so, the consensus seems to be to go with speed queen but there are definitely issues depending upon who the distributor is in your area. I would not buy one in my area. If you look at recent threads you'll find quite a long one on what happened to mama pinky and her sq experience I think that she ended up with the duet front loader....See MoreRelated Professionals
