I really like a light limewash of brick as dark as yours. Think of it as a glaze on a redvelvet cake. It allows the brick to breathe(dry out). Learn about it online, youtube videos, etc. You will see many examples. Don't do the German Schmear. It is nice, but your type of home, well, I think it also 'seals' the porous brick and you don't want to add mold to your problems in times to come. DYEBRICK, is very very nice also. Many beautiful homes with that treatment. Lime washing is less expensive. Enjoy this post!!...See MoreNeed help/advice on exterior paint, windows and garage doors

My house was hit by a hailstorm and I'm having to make big decisions quickly. I really don't want to screw up - a lot of these decision will have to last 10+ years and each decision might influence the others. I'm very excited not to have a pink house much longer! I'm leaning towards a creamy white with black accents and wood-looking garage doors? Here's what's going on: - the roof has already been replaced and I went with a dark charcoal shingle. From the street you can't really see my roof - New Milgard French Doors were installed in the back. The exterior is black and somewhat modern - There are two big picture windows that are newish - they are white. The 2nd photo shows both - I just bought two black barn lights to over the garage doors - https://www.lampsplus.com/products/warehouse-10-inch-high-black-gooseneck-outdoor-wall-light__9c417.html Problems: - the front of the house is all garage, so the garage doors are very important. Right now they are basic white. - there's no front porch and you can't see the front door to paint it a fun color. - there's not much architectural interest to the house. Will white be too bland? - the windows in the front don't have enough space to put shutters on Decisions I need to make: - exterior paint color - garage doors. It will probably be a couple years before I can afford new ones, but I want to paint my house with new ones in mind. - windows - black or white? I love my new black French doors and I was thinking of getting black windows, but they're much more expensive. Much more. I appreciate any and all help and feedback! Comments (14)Snap a photo on a sunny day then use the Sherwin Williams ColorSnap app to play with the colors. I would select a tone slightly darker than your mortar for the garage door and a color slightly darker than your darkest brick for the front door. I would then on the garage door install magnetic faux hinges and windows; this will add detail to the door, like the below house. I know they can be found on Amazon, not sure where else. Comments (9)Yes, it will be too narrow. So here's the rest of my opinion: -The most prominent feature of a house should never be the garage doors. -The front entry should be clear, welcoming and should guide the visitor with visual cues. -A front door that's hidden in a dark tunnel is awful. -A home needs a "front side" - that's not always the side facing the street (yours isn't). Building the garage in front of your existing would completely block the "front" of your house. Here's an idea: Put the new garage behind the existing and have the garage door on the side of the house instead of the front. Rework the drive a bit --to the right of where the car is parked --with pavers so that it's a "drop off area" that helps to emphasize the "front" of the house. You have a nice house. Don't mess it up with a remuddle job that gives you more sq feet but ruins the house in the process....See MoreKatie Barber
