What Countertop Looks Like Marble--But It Isn't Marble?
Comments (23)Yes, I was told that some quartzite does etch. I was asking on the stone advise forum about one called Mont Blanc that was listed as quartzite by the stone yard and this is what I was told: Mont Blanc is not a granite. It was introduced as a quartzite which is harder than granite. But unfortunately it is not a quartzite. It is what we have come to refer to as a hybrid marble/quartz material. It will scratch and etch. It is suitable for kitchens as long as you treat it like a marble and install it honed. So although there are probably pure quartzite stones out there, there are also stones that may be somewhere in between. That means it is probably important to test the stone you are getting the make sure it is what you expect. I would be very upset if I got a "quartzite" instead of marble because marble was not practical for me and ended up with soemthing that would stain and etch anyway. Comments (13)writer, we spoke on another thread regarding this issue. The Alabama quarry in Sylacauga is owned by an Italian company with an office in Miami. They do not process slab material at all. We buy blocks and pay Polycor to process them in the Tate Ga plant. As far as I know we are the only company handling the slabs. What part of Fla are you in as we service most of the state. We have a showroom in Jacksonville. You can make arrangements with them to view slabs. At the moment we do not have much 3cm, but we have 8 blocks being processed. We do have some thicker 3" stock if you are interested. The Alabama material has a good bit of variation and will get some pink and green in the slabs. The truly clean ones go very fast in the Bham showrom. Let me know and if you want the Alabama I will assist as I can. Blessings...See MoreSealing Alabama White Marble
Comments (7)antss- So does the 511 seal the grout and marble? Just want to clear up that I do or do not need two separate products. You also noted "after you clean it up and fill in the voids" How do I go about doing this? Can you just apply more grout and then wipe it off like you normally? sabjimata- what is poultice? Did you use that to clean up the grout or the marble? Thanks guys! this is my first post and I thrilled that I got good and fast responses. I am remodeling and think I will be here alot! This is a really cool resource....See MoreAnyone with Alabama White marble?
Comments (2)I have Alabama White on my hutch and in my bathroom. I chose a slab of calacutta gold first! and when the warehouse called my GC, he nearly fell over from the price(they would not tell me) ! Said he had done entire houses, big kitchens PLUS 3 bathrooms for what my bathroom would cost. Back to the warehouse, whee we wandered through the scrap bin, and there was the PERFECT small slab, and it think both tops fabricated only cost $900. My contact lens solution etches it around my bathroom sink, but no other problems....See More- 6 years ago
