Personally, if I saw a door handle one finish on one side and another on the other side, I'd find that strange. Door handles should match each other in the house (or so I thought), not the finish in each room. It will be much more noticeable that you have a two toned door knob than the fact that the door handle doesn't match the other metals in the bathroom. People do not normally notice what door handles match the interior of the room they are in. At least I never have. Unless you think the people who visit you would actually think a two toned handle is appropriate, I wouldn't try that trick. What do the interior door knobs in the rest of your house look like? Also, remember, too much matchy matchy is boring and not noticed but instead blends all together. If you change to a two tone knob then which one should the hinges match? See my point? One thing can lead to another and before you know it you're stressed to a frazzle and for what, a door knob? I'll show you my grays hairs to prove my point. LOL My guest bath hardware is in an antique bronze, almost black finish, yet the door knobs that are in that room and throughout the house are crystal with brushed nickle back plates. Do you think anyone is going to look at my crystal door knobs and think, oh she should have put in antique bronze? Of course not. As long as your selections are stylish, the metal color is not the breaking deal on a bathroom door. Forgot to mention the handles on the antique dresser in my guest bath are antique brass, a third finish in that tiny room. Yet, it all is very beautiful. You have to trust your heart and your eyes sometime and not just think everything has to match exactly, because it does not. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

@ suzanne_m thank you, that's a good option as well! the drywall is in there for the linen for light switches, we weren't sure where to place them if it's just a tall cabinet since the bathroom door opens almost flush with the shower. We're using that opposite wall for towel hoooks. Yes, we're considering moving the bathroom to the sitting room and having a standalone laundry room in the current bathroom. Unfortunately, we can't move the office walls towards the existing bathroom because there's a bump out for the chimney that's been converted for HVAC right behind the tub, but we could flip the stair landing linen closet into that existing bathroom. We're also considering turning the current sitting room into a laundry room (it faces south, so the stairwell gets a lot of sunlight) and using the existing hall bathroom with a jack-and-jill door to the office so kids can traverse to the master without going up and down are few steps. We're adding a 30x30 skylight in that windowless bathroom. The office (built originally as the housemaid bedroom) above the kitchen and that 2 step turn are original to the house so unfortunately turning that 90-degree turn into a straight 2 steps up would require a lot of re-engineering of the current stairs and support beams for the addition downstairs.

Hi I will be remodeling my bathroom in the near future. Currently I have a 6 panel hollow core door. I would like the new bathroom to be somewhat soundproof as it is the master bath attached to my bedroom. I plan on adding insulation in the interior wall between the two rooms as well as possibly using special drywall on that wall. As far as the door goes my research tells me that a solid mdf door has the most mass and thus will be best for lowering sound transfer. Another problem is the gap on the bottom of the door. I would like to minimize the gap for sound reasons however if I do this I will be limiting the airflow and would cause the exhaust fan to be useless in this new “sealed” bathroom. Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop sound without choking my fan out?

I have pixelated glass for all my doors going to bedrooms and bathrooms they provide light filtration and privacy. BTW no walkin access from the bathroom ever . IMO better to have a wall of really well designed reach in closets before that design. Not sure what the doorway at the top right is for and also the weird doorway to a linen closet area. So reconfiguring that whole area and the elimination of the walk in the bathroom should allow for a really nice sized walk in closet or as I mentioned redesign to allow for a who;le wall of reach in I love Ikea Pax for reach in closet s the storage is awesome they look great and are decently priced and can be cutom designed for exactly what you need
