uncommon plants in the valley..
Comments (28)Marymcp- Thanks! As far as the shade goes, those plants are barley getting any. They are starting to get burnt tips, but they are still alive and going strong. If you find yourself getting more babies off your spider plants than you have room for inside(like me), it's at least worth a shot outside. Those mesquite trees sound like they are going to be a great addition to your garden. Grant- Thanks alot, I really appreciate the specifics and solid advide/observations you provide. How about your Jades? What kind of watering schedule do they get? My large jade that was frying in the sun has recovered nicely inside and is now sprouting new leaves;)...See MoreUPDATE: obf's mmm of may's #2

Comments (11)I've had A&E here for ongoing fridge problems(5 service calls, 3 large dents in new wood floor and 1 new fridge being delivered on 3/6) Replacement of Electrolux Icon glass panes(3 service calls: 1 guy to remove panes for cleaning a week before Christmas and still moving back into kitchen and would take 2 -3 hrs of time after arriving at 5:30pm-told him that wasn't happening at this time and what originally was supposed to happen was a new entire door, so we'll take care of this at a later time), 2nd vs-guy(kid, really) comes to remove panes for me to clean and rips the gasket; he decides to just order new glass panes and gasket, 3rd vs-Replace all panes and gasket Garbage Compactor-Broken pedal-this was taken care of with oven issue but on the final oven vs. they didn't put the new pedal on the truck so it had to be shipped for us to install; it wasn't a biggie and we got the pedal two days later. I give them mixed reviews; the fridge was just crazy though, just kept replacing things and it never corrected the problem of keeping the food cold; temps all over the place in the fridge side. It got ridiculous and at one point one of the service guys told me that Sears would replace the unit after 3 service calls so at 5, I said i was done and called Sears and they are replacing it, no problem. Just wish they were replacing the floor since all of the A&E guys except for one, never used floor protection when pulling it out. Unfortunate for me that I didn't catch on to what was happening earlier, rather than later. I think that it probably depends on where you are at and the service you get with these guys....See MoreYour last random act of kindness
Comments (39)mscsippy's cat story reminded me of a RAOK I did 4-5 years ago. A local elementary school had closed due to budgets and attendance -- the school was a couple miles out of town, so the school was consolidated with the larger one in town. In August/September that year, I was at the school to vote on something since it is used as an election precinct. Upon walking around the school (very nice, new construction, such a shame it was closed), I came upon a very hungry semi-feral cat. Nearby empty cat food cans were evidence that someone was coming by every now and then to feed it, but not very often. I started coming by at least every other day to leave a can and a bowl of dry food in a somewhat protected area. In time, I worked up a schedule on a calendar so that other visitors would know when the cat had been fed. Custodial workers removed the signs several times, but I persisted. At times the cat would come towards me, but never close enough to pet. In time it seemed content to hang out at the end of an 8 foot bench, with me at the other end. In November, while feeding the cat, I ran across a mother and daughter -- the mother, Katy, told me about the cat -- she had been the school mascot and she was named "Banshee", and until the school closed she had been taken care of by the school custodian, who of course no longer worked there. Winter was upon us by this time, so, since Banshee had once been a sociable cat, Katy and I decided to try and capture her and find her a home. It was quite an endeavor, with two tries over two days no luck at all. We had luck on the third try, with some subterfuge in getting Banshee into the cat carrier, but we did it. We took her to a vet and paid for vaccinations and Feline Leukemia test/vaccination. Thank goodness she had already been spayed. After spending $100 or so on getting her up to snuff, which neither of us could really afford at the time (she a single mother, me unemployed), I took her home, tried to bath her (no go), and sequestered her in a bathroom since my two cats would NOT have been happy to make her aquaintance. They were VERY curious though. I put an ad in craigslist seeking adoption of this wonderful cat who would require some long needed TLC. After a couple of inquiries, I found the right couple who would give her the time needed to completely socialize her again. I know I can do more for my fellow human, but somehow helpless animals need our attention too....See Moresoutheasthouse
