Comments (3)Do you have a drawing of your house? If you do, then get copies made and get an inexpensive set of water colors, crayons, and/or colored pencils. Hark back to your coloring book days. Paint/color the drawing copies with various schemes and pick the one you like best. I did this for the first house we had built and the technique worked well. We ended with 3 colors: The roof and trim the same color, the sides a neutral color (white), and 3rd color for the window sashes. In later years and another house, my wife decided that 3 colors were too many and we reduced to two colors. Any brick or stone work adds another color....See MoreRoof shingle color
Comments (27)I hope this works awm. As I noted, we're in the midst of some major landscape reno. The county is finally putting in sidewalks so our street is a construction zone! We took advantage of that to redo drainage and put in new hardscaping and landscaping. Today, in fact, we're hoping to make some serious headway into getting the footings for the wrought iron and stone fence put in and the lamp post relocated. We're also going to put in an outdoor electrical receptacle so I can finally have a dedicated line for my fountain and christmas lights instead of running an extension cord from the garage! We will be repainting so the house color will change. We're not committed to the brick facade either, but that won't be for at least a year before that changes out....See Moreexterior siding/deck color to match Weathered Wood color shingle roof

Comments (13)My house has white vinyl siding, and it requires constant maintenance in terms of cleaning. We live in the country (we're farmers), and the white shows everything - especially cobwebs, dead (and live!) insects, and dust from the road and surrounding fields. It is especially bad around my entrances and windows (probably because that's where I see it close up). We power wash the house in the spring and fall, and I constantly clean my entrances by hand so that it looks respectable. The house we are building will have darker wood siding and a grey metal roof. I have no doubt that the darker siding will also get dirty, however I think it probably won't show up as much as it does on the white siding....See MoreRelated Professionals
