Wednesday 7/12 blooms from the Southern Tier

Here are some new ones from my garden:

LEMON FRINGED PASTEL (I finally got this one last spring. I have been trying to add more Klehm's polychromes to my collection to hybridize with)

FAIREST OF THEM - I get a good clean bloom every so often. This is not a clean bloom but the best so far. I think that this one may go. I have had it for many years and get about 5 or 6 clean looking blooms. When it is good it is good.

Jack Be Nimble Very nice gold with some light red for the eye.

RUBY STORM: This is a good one for the northern garden. Very hardy and increases well.

Dragon Fang: Nice toothy one. The toothy ones are starting to bloom this week.

Heman: Usually has a larger edge. This is its FFO this year.

FACE PAINT: I love this one. I think I will have to cross RUBY STORM with this one. Another great northern plant.

INDY SHOCKER: Slow to increase but a nice tall one. Difficult to photograph. I think this is the best picture I have taken of it. This picture finally captures the eye.

SMALL WORLD LOONIE TUNES: Nice small flower.

QUALITY OF LIFE: Slow to increase, but is tall. Looks like many others that are out there.

FORSYTH VIVACIOUS: Rich red and as the day progresses, the edge becomes pink/white

ENCHANTING ESMERELDA: Hardy but slow to increase

ROCK CANDY: Prolific bloomer. The color seems muddy to me. It does have great plant habit.

ONCE OVER LIGHTLY (Bennett intro)

BLESSED ART THOU: Another great northern plant

FLYING DOWN TO RIO: Very tall.
DRUID'S CHANT: I bought this one when I visited Darryl Apps when he was still in NJ. Quite an overwhelming sight to see 10 acres of daylilies. Darryl was a gracious host and spoke with everyone. He had quite an impressive operation.

Love those toothy ones-gotta get a few this year. Too bad about FAIREST OF THEM, it is a pretty one. Blessed art Thou is doing well here too, did I get that one from you last year? It had tons of blooms on it, all pretty, I think it is one more bud left.

Late to post but these are great photos Chris. PAINTED DESERT looks very much like Curt's INCA APOTHECARY. RIBBIT RIBBIT is a blooming machine here too this year. Wow, I didn't think I would have to divide it so soon but maybe I will. CLAUDINE'S CHARM has been so so here. Yes, it has lots of scapes and buds but not always great opening fully on cool mornings. SUNRISE SUNSET BEAUTIFUL will also be on the list to leave here too. I think it would do better in a zone 7 or higher with consistent high temps versus our up and downs. LONG LEGGED LAP DANCER has done extremely well here but I have mine in full sun. JOAN DERIFIELD has been a pain in my butt this year. It has to get divided as the scapes are all on top of each other with so many buds it can't open properly. I feel like I need to pinch off many of the buds. I'll blame it on the cold winter and the generous amount of rain. PLEASE SAY YES is lovely but DREAMCICLE gets my vote this time, Julia

That's a huge clump of Wild Horses! Those flowers are galloping in every direction. Mine barely bloomed at all this year. It's in a place that's too dry, too shady, and too weedy. I need to rescue the poor thing. I love the photo of the Wild Horses trio. The blooms have a lot of impact. I'm wowed by today's shot of Gilded By Grace. It's just perfection. Christopher Moody looks fabulous too, and it's great to know it has instant rebloom. I got it this spring, but my plant is limping along and not growing well. Court Magician is such a nice purple - in my opinion Munson's best purple - so I can see why you still have it. At one time I had two clumps. One seems to have disappeared, and the other bloomed while I was out of town, so it's good to see yours. Debra

We don't have many of Rice's daylilies, but we really like the ones that have been growing here for a while. Bass Gibson has done very well for us. We even bought a second one because I use it so much in the hybridizing. One of Bob's favorites is Jules DeLambre, a tall coral/orange with some teeth. This one makes quite a show in the second half of the season. One of my favorites is Horsing Around, a pink with a toothy edge. I especially like this one because it is fertile and so many toothy ones are short. We also grow Crown of Creation, which we let get covered in weeds so we don't know how that will do. (We moved it.) We just planted Glowing Quasar. The Rices sent a multi-fan clump this spring. Hopefully it will get established quickly. Jules DeLambre Horsing Around We had heard Ruby Storm was hardy unlike some of the other offspring of Tet. Peppermint Delight. We lost Firecracker Parade and Christopher Moody. Carnival in Mexico catches my eye often, interested to know if they do bloom in a cluster at the top. Although I guess if Julia hasn't noticed an obvious problem, I wouldn't either. I have one seedling that has over 6" heavily ruffled blooms & lots of them. It opens despite the ruffles but sometimes the buds squish the blooms so you don't get a nice effect. Take My Breath Away is a really ruffley one. I've tried Hush Little Baby 3 times before & it died each time. Last fall I got another one & this one almost seems like a different plant, it looks so much more vigorous & better blooming than any of the plants I've had before. Maybe I just found the right spot, I love that color.

Nice blooms today! I really like Indie Shocker, love that dark eye. I also like Fairest of Them, I hope it starts performing up to its potential for you.

Your experiences with different cultivars are similar to mine. Fairest of Them not a lot of blooms. Facepaint was good this year, after I eliminated most of it last year. Enchanting Esmerelda not a good increaser, but great saturated color. Thanks for your evaluative comments.

I love the FASHIONAIRE, it has no ring in the center like a lot do. Very pretty

We grow Lemon Fringed Pastel and it is a super one for us. Ruby Storm and Heman are both in our garden too. We have had trouble with the offspring of Tet. Peppermint Delight being tender, but I too have heart that Ruby Storm is hardy. I sure hope so--I love the huge eye. Nice pictures!

Lovely blooms! Facepaint is my top favorite. I am planning to add that one this fall, love the colors. Ruby Storm, Small World Loonie Tunes, and Enchanting Esmerelda also stand out.
