Do blue and white cabinets work in this laundry room
Comments (33)mlweaving, Thanks for your vote and input and your help once again. I have not posted on the new build blog much lately as my rate of progress as a DIY person with a big family is just not what the typical builder can do. We have made a number of key decisions recently on most of the finishes. It looks like the medicine cabinet as shown is out. Do you all think if we made the medicine cabinet into a single door in same width as the window and only say 5 inches deep it might look better? Or is blank wall above the laundry sink the best. I will try to get DH to redraw the medicine cabinet and put in white counters with all blue cabs. mlweaving, I hope your home progress is advancing despite the hiccups that go with the territory. may_flowers: Thanks very much for that image! I see that those Shakers have a sloped edge rather than flat like standard Shakers. Thanks for taking the time to clarify your idea. Carol...See MoreYellow, Green and Brown Boy's Room
Comments (1)Have you looked in our Gallery for inspiration photos? Yu can eigher do a search for "Kid Room Eye Candy! Kids to Teens" there (it's on page 1) or a search for "Darling Baby & Toddler Rooms" (it's on page 2). If you shut this thread you'll find a link for Gallery at the top and another at the bottom of the page, but here is one for you anyway... Here is a link that might be useful: Gallery...See MoreBuying used furniture. What is worth it? How do you make it work
Comments (64)Well apparently I stink at this and don't see issues with furniture. :p I guess I need to work on that. Looking at these few now. This is kind of a walk through Boop's learning how to buy used furniture thread or furniture in general I Think. I like this set from Vanguard. I think I read that is a decent name. I don't know why but I really like the warmth of the orange. It says Best offer and is from furniture land south. I have no idea what is reasonable to offer. I really like these, but I think the arms might be too high for everyday use.... These look too lumpy right? this is a pair of Baker sofas. Good price I think. Velvet, but I love that and the price is so good I think I could deal with that and the cleaning or recovering the cushions at some point. To the person who said I was all over the place it is true. There is really nothing I am married to in this room ATM besides The IKEA birch expedit shelves and the TV. Well and the brick fireplace (we are thinking of putting in a pellet stove there) I am planning to paint the walls BM windswept. I think it will go with many colors and the kitchen which this room is open to. We currently have a sofa and loveseat. The sofa is shot (very ripped, not worth repairing I think) and the loveseat is OK. A cheap set overall....See MoreBoys in daughters old room? Will it work?
Comments (52)Lascatx-- "If the valance is old, you got your money's worth and it's okay to let it go." I smiled when I read that. It reminded me of trying to get one of your kids to let go of their security blankie or Pooh. I remember how much fun Hannah and I had doing her room and I guess I do need to think about letting it go ;-) Mtnrredux -- love Company Store. Looked for the denim duvet cover and only found the bed skirt. Do you think the duvet cover is discontinued? I love that look. I thought trundles always came with beds, I didn't realize you could purchase them separately till you pointed it out. I don't know if one would fit under our beds. Love the encapsulated mattress idea too. Geokid--had never really looked into bamboo shades, because our old lake has has them in the kitchen and they don't darken. They came with the house. I just looked at them again online and was pleasantly surprised at the selections, colors, and that you can get them with an optional liner to darken the room. Thanks for the suggestion. Busy bee-- when my dds were in high school and even older, we had girls all over our basement. Sprawled everywhere. Wouldn't have had it any other way :-) the night before oldest dd's wedding 2 yrs ago, I had 8 bridesmaids "sleep over" . They don't mind sharing, but you are right boys will not as time goes on. Anitamo and Ellen-- love the sleeper chair, but couldn't find a picture of it opened up. Had no idea there was any such thing. 2 would fit nicely in their room. Sherman--I loved your story. That your dd wanted to do that says something special about how she feels about "home". Anne-- thank you for your opinion. We are moving them down there this afternoon and I'm leaving the valance just for now. So well see :-) Geokid--I did ask for honest opinions and I appreciate yours. Jennangelcat--my boys don't care. At least they say they don't. Which is surprising because they are so different. One is sweet and sensitive, the other is all boy. I should just make the room neutral...and let it evolve! Oakleyoak--thanks. Your sleepover sounds fun. The white blinds are definitely going. That was one spendy thing I got for this house that I'm gradually replacing throughout. Bugs die inside them, no good way to clean them, etc. About the boys.... They are definitely different animals than my girls were. Thanks all. Woke up with a little anxiety about not having my "babies" across the hall from me after 10 yrs . Guess I need to get over it and get to work. Stay tuned for pictures after move!...See MoreUser
