Slip covered vs. upholstered sofa?
Comments (5)I have been looking at the Lee sofas. Everyone on this forum seem very happy with them. They seem very comfortable and the slip covers fit very well. I called Lee and the fabrics that I have chosen were laundered before being made into the slipcovers and are machine washable, but not all fabrics that they have are. I think durability varies with how often they are laundered and if they are washed properly. Lighter colors would be more suseptible to stains, especially if cotton. Any slipcovers bought from a source other than the manufacturer are not going to fit as well. Crate and Barrel carries the lower end of Lee sofas the springs are not the 8 way hand tied but a wire type support. They have lots of the fabrics if you have trouble finding a Lee dealer. I am ordering two different slipcovers. Lee sofas are archived so that you can order another slipcover later if necessary. The slipcover does have a more slouchy look but that is part of its look. I am probably going to buy on line as the pricing is so much better than what I can do locally. I would rather buy locally but cannot leave that much money on the table. I wonder who makes the sofas for World Market. They have a 40% coupon in the store now not sure if it is good on the sofa. I had three little boys, twins and another one 18 months older, now grown, and they are alot of fun. I never had slip covers when they were little, but had a green machine with upholstery attachment. It is amazing what that could clean up! Now I am looking at the possibility of Grandchildren! You might also be interested in something in Krypton fabric! Comments (52)I was raised to buy rather high quality. Kindel, Baker, etc. And when we did our current house 7 years ago, I spared no costs in finishes, furnishings, lighting etc. In retrospect, I think that was really dumb. It is not nearly as satisfying as it might sound to just buy whatever you want, period. I think it is more satisfying to get things you like AND to feel as though you made sound decisions. No matter what I can afford, when I overspend I am spending money that I could otherwise give to charity or leave to my heirs. So being able to afford something does not at all justify wasting money, in my book. At seven years, my primary house it kind of dated already. For example, most of my faucets are shiny nickel. Today, I would choose natural brass. I am sure that as time goes on many things I chose will start to look "wrong". It is nearly impossible to avoid. We are looking at buying a snowbird home, and right away if the colors are warm tones like off white and cream, I don't like it. I want it all to be grey and white. No doubt in a few years that will change again. Already a grey kitchen is more au courant than a white one which displaces the creamy taupey ones which displaced the cherry ones. So I'd rather spend less and replace it when I feel like it, with most things. I would not spend so little that something does not wear or function, but really so much in decor is totally overpriced....See Morelooking for real reviews of Pottery Barn Turner Leather soda
Comments (66)I was set on the Turner grand and found one at my PB outlet for $2200. It’s statesville toffee and I love the color. It does scratch easily but I try to be careful and have one end covered with a throw for my dog. The shape/support is still pretty much like new and we still love it. I also have a James recliner in legacy chocolate and that leather is SUPER durable....See MoreNeed help finding a good quality modern/transitional extra long sofa
Comments (18)I’ve had custom furniture made before, and I agree that it’s not necessarily more expensive, and it’s a great option. I think it’s a much riskier undertaking with a sofa however. Subtle variations can make a huge difference in both looks and comfort. I think it’s fine if you see a sofa you can try out and examine and then just make it a bit longer or whatever. But cobbling together a custom sofa from, say pictures, is risky in my opinion....See MoreAnnie Santulli Designs
